17'58" for Wiggo

I was at the turn and it was good to see a rainbow jersey moving 'in anger' - he was definitely trying.

A lad about 10 was stood next to me with his Dad. When Wiggins came into view (with tail wind and therefore moving quite well), the lad shouted 'look at the speed Dad' ... that was great to hear such excitement

Had a first go at timing myself over a local 10 mile course earlier this evening. Nothing official, just using the time of of day readout on my Garmin and the rough start and end points.... 35 mins, and knackered!

Still, I've never averaged even 17mph over any real measured distance before, and it's something to work at...!

I pinned on a number last night for the local 10mile TT and achieved my 2 targets.

Under 30mins and not last!

https://www.strava.com/activities/308400388

The official time was 27:52 and I was 21st out of 25!

I also raced Lora Turnham and Corrine Hall who both did the route in 22:50 biggrinbiggrin

The course is a little lumpy but it was windy last night, with roughly half of it into the wind and half with a tail wind. I'd be interested in seeing the difference a still day makes. I was on a standard road bike by the way, Giant Defy 1.

I enjoyed it and will be having another pop very soon!

After seeing Bradley in full flight, and some of the other riders who, quite frankly, should never be let loose in the Lycra shop, I have started thinking; "surely I could still go faster than a couple of these guys?"

Here is my shot of our pedalling Knight of the Realm :-)

Bear in mind that event Brad rode was meant to be for slower than 22 minute riders, so not surprising there were a few lumps on show wink

Got my first event on Saturday, looking to finally get a 19 on the H10/8 course (the one Dizeee was talking about) having come so close on numerous occasions! Quite a decent field mind you, could be right at the top!

I should have said the first 'fast' TT of the year vs sporting (mix of roads with climbs etc) events.

Cheers!

See you there Rob, if I can be bothered to glue up another tub and get myself all the way there. Weather looks ok if a bit windy.

Yes, I did spot your name on the sheet.

It actually looks quite fast I would say, gentle tailwind on the way out, its fairly sheltered so 7mph wind isn't bad... I would think you could set a very handy time on your roadbike!

I was watching the Tour Series - Wiltshire highlights on Eurosport last night. 4th place was a NFTO rider who was apparently only a 4th Cat racer (but a v.good time-trialist). Made me think of this thread thumbup

Aye, I speak to Ed a fair bit, talented lad, used to ride with our club in fact. Tour series is the crit stuff, that is the Elite series which is road based (confusing I know) - he's hoping to get a ride in the Tour of Britain later in the year, which I think he can do. One of the few kids with his head screwed on right, he's just doing his finals at Cambridge as we speak, I hope he gets what he wants out of the sport.

I had the beating of him in TT's though before recently, but he gave me a kicking the the nationals last year, but hopefully this years course will help me out a bit vs him.

Oh yes, Elite Series. Tour Series is coming to Bath next month. Good to see the Cambridge-sportsman tradition continuing thumbupwink

I watched that as well, fair play to him. Thought the Wiggins rider came across like an arrogant ahole though the way he was berrating him at the end. He had every right to be hanging on to them surely!

Sadly one thing I that is prevalent in higher end cycling is entitlement and ego. A lot of the UK pro's think they're a really big deal, and anyone who isn't known is likely to get given a hard time for whatever reasons, it's pathetic. I really enjoy watching it when they get a total shoeing at the nationals from the Sky lot. If you read the interview with John Wood you'll see that he told Ed not to pull as it was his first race at this level and any result was a good one, he said this isn't what he would normally tell a rider, but in this instance it seemed fitting - so I can see how that might wind up the others in the break, but these things happen. They stayed away so I can't see what was worth making a big deal over tbh.

I'm doing my first TT tonight, 6.X miles, off road.

Never done anythin like this before, I've done 2hr races but not a short TT - what do I need to do?

I don't want to go flat out so that I'm done in after a couple of miles, but don't want/need to pace for the duration I've raced before... My target is 30mins, I don't know how realistic this is 12mph seems achievable.

Hydration wise, do I just hydrate before and after my effort, just so I can save the weight of a bottle of drink on the bike and the time in drinking the drink.

I'm going to be at the venue 90minutes prior to the start, is a slow warmup/sighting lap worthwhile?

I'm not going to carry any spares, just on the assumption if anything goes wrong I may as well walk/limp the bike back...

I only have a Edge 200 computer so speed/distance is the only real information I have on the bike

Thoughts / Advice much appreciated.

IMO no need for hydration on a 30min effort - save the weight instead.

Ok I'm still a 30min+ rider, but ironically my PB so far was set with a water bottle on the bike cos I forgot to throw it in the starters car!

You did well and it was good to say hello. Come back next week and I guarantee you'll go faster. Meant to speak to you after the finish but I was too busy wrestling with my bloody overshoes.
