I was watching the Tour Series - Wiltshire highlights on Eurosport last night. 4th place was a NFTO rider who was apparently only a 4th Cat racer (but a v.good time-trialist). Made me think of this thread thumbup
Aye, I speak to Ed a fair bit, talented lad, used to ride with our club in fact. Tour series is the crit stuff, that is the Elite series which is road based (confusing I know) - he's hoping to get a ride in the Tour of Britain later in the year, which I think he can do. One of the few kids with his head screwed on right, he's just doing his finals at Cambridge as we speak, I hope he gets what he wants out of the sport.

I had the beating of him in TT's though before recently, but he gave me a kicking the the nationals last year, but hopefully this years course will help me out a bit vs him.
This Ed Bradbury? He rode our road race last week, which also happened to be the eastern region champs. Nice bloke! Marked to within an inch of his life though. biggrin he's a 2nd cat though not a 4th.

You did well and it was good to say hello. Come back next week and I guarantee you'll go faster. Meant to speak to you after the finish but I was too busy wrestling with my bloody overshoes.
Sorry for not saying anything at the end, I didn't see you to be honest, just chuffed to have finished and nearly caught my 2 minute man! My minute man was well gone!

As for going faster, I'll shave my legs. That must be good for at least 30secs!

I'm definitely up for next week. I've even been looking at TT bikes.....

How much difference does a TT bike make? Or should I just shave my legs and push harder? wink

Yeah, but let's face it, it's as ugly as fuch!

There must be a halfway house between aero and aesthetics. However, you can't argue with the detail:

"With a flush press-fit BB there's no external bearing cups to cause air drag."

Could have me beating my PB that could biggrin

Evidently, you are wrong about it being ugly...

...and my new Trek road bike has no external bearing cups. So yet another excuse for poor performance goes out of the window, then frown

I think it looks great.

However, the BB30 would put me off - no matter how flush it is!

I think my wife will put pay to any silly talk about n+1, especially as the plans for our house mods are in for planning permission at the moment! Might just have to push harder on the pedals biggrin

A proper TT bike would make a difference but you'll get a good percentage of that benefit just with some clip on aero bars which are a lot cheaper than a full on bike. I used to have some but gave them away a little while ago otherwise you could have had them. If you want, you could have a borrow of my "spare" TT bike (I'm such a tart) one day to see the difference it can make.

Well, a good morning for me, smashed my PB for this particular course clocking 19.13 to win by 25 seconds or so, I need to check but it could actually be a course record, but I'll try to find out, I imagine Hutch may have done a better time on there.

Awesome time, cant imagine what its like to go that fast. I beat my PB Thursday on G10/57 down to 23.21 and the speed difference of someone doing 21's looked big as they flew past. Going to aim to go <23 now.

Nice ride okgo, friend done this and PBed for 10 with a 21:34 for 20th place.

Trying to figure out what to get for my TT bike, debating a tri spoke, but think I may just go for an 80 for the front wheel, just wondering what others are running?

Thank chaps. Was a good day on there today, but that is about as good power as I've done for a 10, and vs my peers it was a good result too, so not a total gift - I am quite self critical, if I'd have done a pb on st power and close to others that I'm not normally then it would take the edge off it for me, but thankfully not today.

I use a 90mm HED JET, its fast. But I would guess Tri spoke is about the same...

So this is £3240 this weekend with the extra 10% discount.

http://www.sigmasport.co.uk/item/Cervelo/P3-Ultegr...

Is that going to likely be the best deal around for a TT bike at the moment? Im not sure if I want talking into or out of this, but I cant stop thinking about it.

Buy used from someone on the TT forum would be my advice.

That's a great time there Rob, put's my PB well into context. Is the Strava power figure of 380 watts accurate for that 19 mins, or were you closer to 400 + ? Amazing to think the difference a bit more power and a lot more aero can make in terms of a result.

I reckon you could get an 18 something on that course, with the right set of wheels. I could recommend some if you want - they are so good you have to reign them in a bit else others get the hump... ;-)

Yep, 383 or so, think I did about that in the national ten last aug. So I'm going well as I've not touched the TT bike for 6 weeks before this ride.

I do lose a fair bit in the TT position over the roadbike, I think 400 or so for roadbike is about right as I've got my FTP (hour power) set to around 380w for the roadbike.

Yes 18 is possible, need a few more watts, or to become more aero, I have a session with my coach at newport velodrome soon where we will be aero testing so if I can save 10w of drag and gain 10w of power then I should be there or thereabouts with another nice day on there. Ha, I already have the fastest wheels out there!

Well done Rob awesome ride! I decided to go back and see my parents for the weekend so didn't make it down there in the end. Did manage a couple of hours on the TT bike this morning though.

Thinking about selling mine if you're interested in saving yourself £700 off that and getting better wheels etc.
