There's a TT on the bypass outside Steyning where I live, may give it a go some time soon. Not sure I want to like it though, can't justify any more expense having just bought a Propel.
The same bypass I rode along last weekend with a nice, fresh, deep layer of tar'n'chip! Sussex council seem to have bought a stack of the stuff, I rode down from the Thames Valley to see the out-laws last weekend, 60-odd miles into the ride I came across miles, and miles of the stuff so deep that I could not ride outside of the tyre tracks! Good luck TT-ing on that!

First TT tonight. A low-key 'hilly' club 10 around country lanes.

I'll be riding 10Kg of ally Synapse with a stack of spacers. Just want to test myself. Push as hard as I can sustain for 30-odd minutes and set a time which I can then chip away at each time I go back. A yardstick against which to measure improvements over the year.
Was aiming for 29:something. Came in at 29:02.

Let's see if I can't knock a bit off that next time!

Good thread

Started last year age 42 having been back riding since 2012, entered probably half the local club TTs inc one 25. Best of 24.49 on the roadie with aero bars.

Bought a cheap TT bike end of last year, Felt B12, mostly ultegra drivetrain. Put on some 50mm Chinese clinchers. Haven't really adapted to it yet, best time this year of 24.38.

Tend to switch between my local club TTs (Rugby) and Warks RC week to week. Local club a lot bigger, generally 50 testers each week or thereabouts.

Really enjoying it, not going to break any records. Target this year is sub 24mins

Current saddle has got to go, ruining my undercarriage. Will buy an Adamo TT at somt point

If you are in Mid Wales there are 3 "D" course events using the lovely smooth tarmac around Welshpool (I'm organising 2 of them so a little biased!!) Hafren CC 10 on 3rd June uses Welshpool to Four Crosses and back, the Oswestry Paragon 10 on 28th July uses same course but in reverse. SCCA 25 on 1st July starts on the Newtown side of Berriew and uses the same stretch of road.
Great to see testing getting some interest on here, I've done everything from club 10's to 12 hours (also swear by an adamo)mainly on "D" courses (Liverpool district) but with the odd trip to chase a PB

Great idea for a thread.

I'd been riding my local club 10s for a couple of years when I decided to try open events. I'm in Mid Wales so my local events are 2 hours away usually around Abergavenny. Being a bit of a weirdo, I thought my first open event should be..... The Welsh 12 hour championship. Oh well. Baptism of fire. It was a beautiful sunny day and the legendary WCA support was fantastic. From cornettos of cold rice pudding, to cold wet sponges it was all hugely appreciated. I got caught out by my saddle attempting to sever me from the bks up at about 9 hours and spent 90 mins off the bike. Eventually hopping back on and recording just over 200 miles for the 12 hours. I got off the bike with a serious feeling of accomplishment but had a feeling I could do better.

After my legs recovered. I entered the WCA 100, 50 and 10. And completed them all in satisfactory times. I think I bought an Adamo around then too. I'd not been happy with my time off the bike in the WCA 12 so entered the national champs as it was only across the border in Shropshire. I put in a much better performance and only spent 9 minutes off the bike which was pretty much spent replacing bottles and gels from the car boot at prees Heath and taking a couple of piss breaks. I was unsupported so had a bowl of water and a sponge in the. Out for de-salinating my face too. No saddle issues this time. Adamo worked wonders. Ended up with 231.9 miles much happier. But now wondering what it takes to get to 250.

I did the Welsh 10 a week later but the legs hadn't recovered and I only managed a 24:34. Equal to my local club 10 PB but on a DC R10/7 where I should have been faster.

Since then I've barely ridden at all. Had our first child and joined the RAF reserves so fitness was focused in passing the various tests thrown at us during application. I'm now through all that and parenthood has settled down. Entered my local club 10'last weds and did a mid 28. My course PB is some 4 mins quicker so plenty of room for improvement but it's good to be back!

I ride a Planet X stealth with a 54t osymetric big ring on 165mm cranks. Mixture of 105/ultegra an adamo road saddle and Planet X 50mm tubs. Leant the disk to a mate this season as he'll be faster than me!

Is there an easy way to get up a list of dates that a particular course is being used rather than have to sift through the various cycle clubs and make your own list?

Im trying to find out when the next H10/8 I can make is.

There's an excel sheet of ctt events on the TT forum.

https://sites.google.com/site/xavierdisley/ctteven...

Just filter by course and then you can see the dates.

Good thread.

I had my first exploratory steps into TTing a few weeks ago in a local roadmans TT - enjoyed it. Rode my SuperSix on shallow rims as per the roadman rules.

This summer is silly busy with weddings (including my own) but I do fancy giving some 10s a go. I'll start off with the 50mm Planet-x tubs on the SuperSix, but will give aero extensions a go at somepoint too. That won't be on the same bike as Deda say no to anything clamped on my carbon bars. Luckily, I have options.

If I get on well, and get my times down on a road bike, I'll consider a TT frameset next year.

Great thread, really interesting to read what people are up to.

Haven't taken part in an ITT yet, but have done a few TTT's. We use a 50km loop, relatively flat, but often windy. Team of 4, best time so far is 1h11min @ 41km/h, all 4 on road bikes, mine being a BH Prisma with Vision 40 wheels.

I started riding TT's a few years ago as my Girlfriend does them. I ride on Cheshire courses, mainly the J2/9 which is a 25 mile TT. This is a roadmans course I'd say, quite sporting (hilly) with a far from perfect surface. It's 2 laps of a circuit so wind is generally an issue at some stage. Reasonably quiet as regards traffic, feels very safe but it's a "slow" course. I'm currently getting around in 55 minutes or so. No idea what my actual PB us to be honest. I usually finish between 3rd & 6th.

I've done a few 10's on a variation of the J2/9, same basics, potholed & hilly but more of an out & back towards Knutsford. Quite enjoy the 10's, last time out I did over a few full-timers so that was ok. I'll get around that one in 21min ish...

Current bike is a Scott Plasma, smattering of DA 7900 components with a Bontrager Disc & either a Zipp 404 or cheapo 88mm Chineses carbon up front. Position is ok but I've not quite got it right, think it's simply a few mm here & there & it'll feel right. My previous bike was an old Raleigh, I felt great on this pretty much from the off...I'll tinker some more & get it right.

They are open events though Tom, you have to be a member of a CTT affiliated club to enter an open event, not sure if dizeeee is.

Annoyingly this year it seems London West have not put their events on their site, you can of course buy a handbook (archaic as time trialing is, a book!) but they're sold out too! So I think sadly at current the only way is to cruise the club forums.

However, there are a list of club events here for London South, which is basically Dorking as a nearest point to where you are - https://www.dropbox.com/s/b8e2vwtarnlrpvy/G%20dist... - events marked O are open and you need to be a club rider, and events marked C are club, so in theory you should be able to turn up and pay.

I should really try out a time trial - to be honest I don't think I have the testicular fortitude/trust of others to race, but would be good to do something competitive rather than just ploughing my lonely furrow.

I expect I will have my @rse kicked about all over the shop - but better to be in it than watching I suppose

Did my first TT a couple of weekends ago with Cranleigh Cycling Club.

Course was G10/44, a sporting course and a lot hillier than I expected, came 5th in 28.20, about 40 seconds off the winner on my road bike with shallow rims.

Got the bug and now making excuses at work to get back for mid week 10's on the Normandy/Farnham nights

Tonight!!! Hope the weather sods off in time or it won't be, I don't get wet for fun, unless I'm diving!

I know its going to be cold so I've broken out the winter gear!

Thats why I went for ITT's rather than road races, its just me then.

So far I'm the slowest on PH, and thats effecting me more than finishing last last week! Didn't think I'd be that bad.

Good luck!

Don't read anything into my time vs yours. My course isn't the full 10 miles.

Did a couple (well, 3) 25's on H25/4, but can't make any of those this year. Looking to do some more, would be nice to get under the hour - H25/4 doesn't seem like a particularly fast course? Guess I'm looking around west london, would be the area where they're not published.. murphy strikes again! Any suggestions welcomed..
