I don't own TT bars so I'll be riding what I have, which is very un-aero, apart from the 40mm clinchers. Looking forward to getting stuck in !

Well I did my first TT tonight, run by Otley CC. A hilly 13.6 miles with 1300 ft of climbing (I previously thought it was 'only' 700ft). Managed a 40:31 averaging 20.3mph. No idea on placing. Winner did a ridiculous low 35min averaging over 23mph for a new course record.

Pacing was decent apart from the first climb where I got carried away chasing my 1 and 2 minute men. Hit a new max HR of 184bpm, but then I settled down to around 170 for the remainder.

Really enjoyed it and hope to do some more TTs in the future, although I don't think flat ones will suit me, but I'll give them a crack. Might even invest in some tri bars. Did this TT on a standard road bike (with 40mm clinchers).

Managed to beat my PB on Wednesday - an official 27min effort for a 10mile TT.

Looking at my heart rate trace, I don't know how I can improve on that - unless I push into the anaerobic zone for much longer. My legs just need more power per heart beat!

My first TT of the season would be my hardest and my HR would be sky high. 8 weeks later it was a completely different event all your systems are used to the effort you are fitter and the time will drop considerably.
I know some riders start off their season right at their top level or very close I never could so keep doing the TT's and your times will tumble.

My first open 10 in 4 years last Tuesday. The weather on the R10/22a was a bit, err, rubbish. constant drizzle all day, but the wind was kind. I've been training well and I was happy to return to the HQ with a 21.37. It was a good ride for me, but I know there is a bit more time as I have forgotten just how much you need to concentrate. A few times I felt myself wandering off. Looking at my ride against a friend of mine who posted 20.59 I lost 15sec from mile 2 to 5, held him at 15 sec until mile 7 then lost the rest from mile 7 to 10, so At least I know where I'm losing time, I have the speed, I just need a bit more top end endurance. My ave power for the ride was 372W. I'm a bit lardy at 86Kgs, so a bit of weight loss, try and improve the position a bit and speed endurance work and I recon I can break into the 20's this year.
9th overall, but still a bit behind Kieron Davies who finished with a 19:32 !

I would say there is a LOT you can do with your position to be honest, 370W is very decent, 2 mins down on Keiron is a lot for that power (don't get my wrong, he is top class) - so might be worth looking into that a bit...

I agree, I've been riding road and hills for a few years now and reverting to my old TT position I just couldn't get the power out, I've found a position where I can now produce the power, but I think I need to train more on the bike and then as I get used to being folded up I can gradually get a little more aggressive with the position. Does that make sense to you Rob?

Yeh for sure, I think its also quite individual, I know some people who have made their positions more aggressive, i.e. lower at the front, lower at the back but its taken a long time to be able to produce the same power, but some people end up still going quicker despite less power, so it is a trade off.

I recently changed my position and maybe I'm one of the lucky few that hasn't suffered, I think I'm quite lucky with that though being flexible and double jointed and such.

Anyone seen and figures banded around for that guy that broke the Nat 100 record with a long 3.18hr.. Quite intrigued by this ride ... Even thought its probably the furthest you get get from my style of riding . I heard 288watts avg ... but that didnt sound right .

Yes, 290w, he is 'very' aero and got a very fast day on a very fast course. Fantastic ride for sure, but I dare say if the nat 100 field (was on same day) rode the same event, then possibly someone may have gone even faster, but I doubt by much. It was a great ride.

290w for 3hrs 20 is certainly still beyond most people, but there are many that could do the numbers and get nowhere near the speed due to how aero he is, it basically would need someone fairly good at longer events who had an FTP of 340 or more, so it rules out a fair few.

Anyone from here entered into the National 25 champs in 10 days?

Getting to that point in the season now where the big events happen!

Hey, I really want to do a TT (first ever) and Port Talbot Wheelers have one on the 20th August on that course (I'm guessing that is the club / organisation that you did it with). That particular date is my 46th birthday so I figured what better way of celebrating. The only problem is that I cannot find any contact details or way of entering the club TT via the PT wheelers website. Can you send me some means / contact detail so I can enter or at least some advice on what I need to have to enter please? (I won't be troubling the faster end of the timesheets)

The event on the 20th August is just a club event. You just turn up on the night , pay I think £3, give your details and ride. You will need to be a member of a cycle club to enter. Or a member of british cycling or the CTT. Just for insurance purposes. Come along, its good fun.

club sec details. I think he's away this week though.

Took 10 seconds off my PB tonight on the club 10. Average power was similar to last time but I think the pacing must have been better.

Would like to hit 25 dead before the end of the year. I reckon that's good going on a road bike. Hopefully an average of 300 watts along the way.

I reckon you'll dip under 25 on that course with the right conditions at 300w. Good effort.

Any PB is a worthy effort well done. Sure you will be down below 25 soon.

I done my first 25 at the weekend on G25/93. First time riding my TT bike in the rain too after crashing in the wet a week ago on the roadbike, so was a bit nervous to start with. Was hoping to go under an hour but ended on 1.01.20 followed by everyone telling me its a tough course and I should be able to do it somewhere else.

Some good photos went on the BECC website. Theres something about a hard effort on the bike that brings out the best facial expressions! Back to the club TT later on G10/57 to try and get closer to a 21. Would love to get it this year.
