Where do we all do time trials? I tend to stick to the Surrey/Hants area with a few exceptions, and I tend to ride 10 mile TT's and 25 mile as at present the bike isn't all that comfortable to ride for longer (in anger) due to the saddle, but I've not found a TT specific saddle I like yet, adamo wasn't for me.
okgo, have you tried the Specialised Sitero? I find it a lot more comfortable than the ISM Adamo Prologue (and Attack) that I used to use - might be an option!Where do we all do time trials? I've not actually, the catalyst for change hasn't been there really as for 1 hour the Arione is fine. But I think I might try a 50 this year as I think I could go quite well over that time period which will force saddle action. I'll certainly try the one you mention as I've heard good things from others also. okgo said:

Sorry OK, I have made your formatting a bit untidy, but the courses I did all my times on, on my old gas pipe, don't exist anymore since they made the mighty Boro' mostly motorway.I wonder what the times would be now? I still remember with fondness, praying for a late start to get more drag from the increased traffic in artics thundering past four feet to your right
No worries, I was thinking about adding a column for roadbikes, but I think many of the times on there are roadbikes anyway (not likely to be the same as the one you rode!).
But as you say I think many of the super fast courses over the years have been banned due to traffic count, but 20.10 with no aero or tribars is rapid, even on a drag strip.

Might try and do a few of the Hillingdon and Velopark TT's this year when I can get back training again. Have you done any of the Hillingdon TT's on the TT bike Rob?
Nope, I've never found the thought of riding from mine to hillingdon and back on a TT bike that appealing okgo said:

Yeah thats awesome that!Best i did on a hilly 10 was 24 ish last year ( no aero/bars etc ) was happy with that. I was only 1 minute behind your coach last year in a local race, him full aero/gear , me fooked back with no aero so was happy with that.
I'm finding it far more enjoyable ( safer ) racing on a standard bike than having all the kit/TT bike etc.. but have taken a break now till the end of year as can't commit to the training 100% and body needs break..
Will miss the racing tho.

Anybody experienced with 12 hour time trials? I've foolishly signed up for the Kent VCA 12 hour at the end of August to see what the old motor has left in it and to see if I can beat the standard for my age, a smidge over 204 miles.
I've done a relatively hilly 12 hour non TT event on the road bike getting to 197 miles and then last summer I did 207 in 13 hours, again on the road bike on my own, so I'm OK with the overall concept of a long day at the office but I've never attempted this type of thing on the TT machine, so any guidance more experienced TT riders have would be gratefully accepted. It's certainly going to be very different to 40 minutes messing around in the mud that I've been doing this winter.
Currently building up time in the saddle and also turbo sessions to get used to being in the TT position for long periods. TT position is currently set up more for endurance than a 10.

Well my clubs first evening TT is out the way, and whilst this isnt the official time (which I dont yet know) it looks like I already got my sub 24 goal.

Guess my target time needs some re assesing, and maybe some TT bike shopping. Really pleased.

My first TT will be next week at 7:30. Should I have tea beforehand (5pm ish) of just have a snack and then eat afterwards?
Just looked at the times in the Wiki thread and feel quite humble!

You should have tea at tea time - 4:30pm sharp. A nice drop of Russian Caravan and a couple of slices of toast with jam.Just looked at the times in the Wiki thread and feel quite humble!

I'd leave dinner until after the TT, though.
So on Monday I did my 1st practise 10TT and did 28:17, then I thought there is so much kit talk on here maybe some tri bars would help so chain reaction supplied so El cheapo Token ones that I bolted on Wednesday night then Thursday did the local club event and got 26:40. So I'm 38, 70kg, 20% fat, once weekly binge drinker and often shame to say smoker - I've been phasing that out over the last year and now it's only maybe 10 smokes a month in total. Other than stoping smoking altogether what's the best way to improve times? The tri bars must have been worth at least 1:30, would a pair of cheap Chinese deep section carbon rims take another min off with zero effort - is a lot down to kit when it comes to TT's? I guess like most things you want to get better at do more of the same thing so practise by doing 10 hard miles?
Cycling fast isn't really a 'skill' or something that you really can improve all that much by anything other than being fitter.
There are a million ways to skin a cat in regards to improving fitness (and I think 999k of those threads are on here and bikeradar!), but generally ride more often, ride harder, push yourself, recover, push yourself some more, ride with people better than you etc.
I'll also say that the drinking and smoking likely isn't making any odds in the grand scheme (as I've done/do both and still gone ok).

Interesting views regards the drinking and smoking, of my improvement over the week I gave myself about 30 or 40 seconds by having coughed up Friday's fags in the Monday and got properly rehydrated. I read somewhere being a bit dehydrated can loose you something crazy like 20% potential. I was still coughing and wheezing after last night but no where near as bad as Monday.
