Morning all.

can anyone recommend a good company for bike insurance? Putting them on the house insurance isn't an option at the moment as i'm in a shared house.

Tried using the search option...

Don't you insure your own contents in a shared house? I do.

I do, but i want to see whether there's a better way to cover high value items than on that policy.

On a similar line, is there anyone who does an equivalent to third party fire and theft for bikes (not that I think its likely that my bike will catch fire, but you know what I mean). I keep thinking about getting some third party insurance, and it would be good to have something that also covers accident damage and vandalism, rather than just theft as most house insurance does.

Preferably from somewhere that does not cost more than my motorbike to insure.

Mine are all on my home insurance policy for one simple reason. The cheapest bike specific insurance I could get was almost as much as my buildings and contents insurance, including all the bikes!!!!

Do you really need insurance? I don't insure any of mine on the basis that bike insurance is very expensive and the only one I ever leave anywhere is the cheapest one with a decent lock around it and in a secure building.

LVRC membership comes with third party insurance for all riding except commuting. Membership is only £20 pa, but only available for those of us over 40.

Or, for younger bucks, I believe BC membership comes with third party cover.

Then arrange theft cover separately.

Boo. I'm under 40 and need it for commuting.

I think paying a little extra on my house insurance and getting separate theft may be the way to go.

Oh, British Cycling is £33, and gives you 10% off at Halfords (so I could make the money back on a new MTB...)

I live in London and have a nice bike. I wouldn't put it past some low life to try and take it whilst i was riding it sadly.

LBS offers this cover. Gives an idea of the costs involved.

I use https://bikmoplus.com and they have been amazing.

Much cheaper than the BC equivilliant also covers all your kit (shoes, clothes, helmet etc).

I was taken out by some tt In a completely separate race in a crit earlier in the year and they my insurance paid up with 5 days of the accident.

That's good to hear. Hope the injuries weren't too bad.

Thanks for the heads-up about bikmo. I wasn't going to bother insuring but I'm impressed by them and have just signed up.

Also planning to take a policy with them, impressed with that price including competition cover. Even more impressed with the speed of payment there!

I just tried that. They still wanted £40.63 per month. My home insurance (including building, contents and the bikes) is only £68 per month...
