"An unsanctioned, unmarshalled adventure in teams of four"
PH team anyone?

The Rapha Prestige is not a race; it’s an unsupported, unsanctioned, and unmarshalled adventure across stunning terrain. Designed to bring out the camaraderie and suffering of road riding, the rules are simple, and the course is tough. Team members must ride – and finish – together.

150km/95 miles in the Peak District? It's a step up from stage 3 of the TdPH in terms of climbing.
I've got nothing on the calendar (as far as I can see) for that Saturday, but I wouldn't want to get too positive about it until I've spoken to 'er indoors about any more cycling silliness.

No mention of total climbing done, only that Mam Nick is included which is not the worst climb I've done in the Peaks.I've got nothing on the calendar (as far as I can see) for that Saturday, but I wouldn't want to get too positive about it until I've spoken to 'er indoors about any more cycling silliness.

TdPH stage three was c100 miles, Cambridge to London, with barely more than 4,000ft of climbing. I'm fairly certain that any ride over a similar distance in the Peak District will be a step up in elevation gain over that Mam Nick is more than 650ft in just over a mile by itself. It may not be the toughest in that area, but after Cambridgeshire and rural Essex, just the mention of riding in the Peak District is enough to quicken the pulse. Round here (Hampshire/Surrey) we don't got no hills of any great repute. Strava records my biggest climb to date as the 'ascent' of Coldharbour Lane out of Dorking. That is 684ft of climbing, but you shouldn't get excited about the absolute height. The climb averages only 3% as it's nearly 5 miles long.

Let's face it, there wasn't any climbing in stage 3.I've got nothing on the calendar (as far as I can see) for that Saturday, but I wouldn't want to get too positive about it until I've spoken to 'er indoors about any more cycling silliness.
It's time to turn the sufferage dial up a bit...

Sooo, £80 a team, for a route suggestion, maybe a free cup of coffee at the start and they'll look after the beer that you bring yourselves to drink at the "party" afterwards.
You've gotta love Rapha!
Good point. When you put it like that, it sort of destroys any sense of 'mystique' that "riding the Rapha Prestige" might have had. But yes, something similar is easily done by four mates on "any given Sunday", and they could put that £20 each toward food and buying the 'proper' beer, poured into a glass at the perfect temperature, at the end .You've gotta love Rapha!
Admit the terms aren't quite as favourable as their HOTN last month - £0 including free barista coffee, Belgian beer and frites - but £20 a head is not much more than half of what Wiggle & Co. want for one of their sportives. And, unlike one of those sportives, there'll be no infuriating nannying on this.
I'll bring the beer if it helps...

If you want some hills, come to North Wales and do the Etape Eryri, it's the week after the Rapha ride.
http://etapeeryri.com/
Organised by the same peeps who I did my first Sportive with back in April, the Gran Fondo Conwy.
From those who I know did last years' the Etape is a GF Conwy Lite in terms of climbing (GFC was 9,500 ft according to the Garmin and 50% greater than the route profile showed).
I have a friend doing the Xtreme route, 226 miles in 18 hrs - nutter!

Thanks for the idea, but if £20 is too much for people then £40/£95 isn't going to be any better! Good luck to your mate, though!http://etapeeryri.com/

Maybe we should go to Snowdonia the week after the sportive. A Welsh adventure without the hordes...
