As things stand if Al can't make it we don't need to ride into London, lets wait and see if anyone else is coming?
Aw, I've been getting quite carried away with the idea of doing the double!

I am definitely filming in High Wycombe on Sunday 5th, probably coming down Sat night so, tempting as it is, trying to direct a film shoot after 110 mile bike ride and no sleep for about 30 hours, might be a bit optimistic!

Justin - I'm looking into the costs of getting roof bars for my car. It would remove a lot of extra driving for both of us if I could transport two bikes at once. After I picked you at at Dunwich we could then leave my car at Brentwood and ride in from there, and you drop me back there afterwards.

Unless someone-else with a car that has capacity to carry more than one bike offers to step in, of course... Anyone? smile

As it stands, with capacity for only one bike, it's a bit like getting the chicken, the fox and the grain across the river!

I have an idea to keep the fox from eating the chicken that's eyeing up the grain:

Does anyone know anyone in Harold Wood/Harold Hill/Brentwood/Romford/Hornchurch? Do we have any PHers from that neck of the woods? Anywhere near J28 M25 (the A12 junction).

If we could find someone willing to let us store a couple of bikes for a couple of hours on the Saturday afternoon it would save us a whole heap of driving. Having come our different ways round the M25 we meet at friendly house first, unload our bikes there, drive to Dunwich, leave bbq van and car A, all go back to the friendly house in car B. Then ride to start from there, do Dun Run and eat bbq smile. Then Justin and I return in car A to retrieve car B from outside friendly house. Give them case of beer / bottle of wine and go our opposing ways home round the M25.

Unless there's renewed interest in riding both ways?

I'm riding the double.

Van full of bbq stuff will be left at Dunwich for 9am Saturday leisurely ride to London, pub dinner or curry then hook up with others for the night ride back.

Can collect 1 person & bike on way up from Sussex coast wink

I'd love to say yes to that lift! but sadly that'd leave 6PB stranded and we can't have that!

Been holding out on replying to the logistics side of things until I heard back from a non PH mate who I ride with every year, he's riding an ideally I'd like to be able to transport him back which means I need my car at the finish as it has the capacity for both of us +3.

6PB I'm proposing we meet at/near Dunwich, you leave a bag of clothes etc in my car and we go back to London in yours. I'll get you home after ride and BBQ.

If this is agreeable we'll also have space for 2 more if anyone wants or we meet some randoms who need space.

If it was just me, then I shouldn't worry about leaving me stranded. I'd ride in with Richard and have a go at the double.

But working on the principle that I'll be driving you (plus a.n.others) one way, the thought behind meeting at a friendly house near J28 first was so we can stash our bikes there to give capacity for carrying people in my car. I can't get bodies and bicycles in it at the same time. With the rear seats folded down, I can take 1 pax and 1 bike (i.e. either my bike or yours but not both). Or, rear seats up, 3 pax but 0 bikes.

The mate I'm riding with lives in London so only needs a lift after, the simplest solution is to leave mine at the beach and use yours to get into town.

Yes, but we need to drop at least one of our bikes off somewhere first. Can't fit both our bikes in for the drive from Dunwich.

SPB, if you're still up for the double (tailwind to London wink), drive to Dunwich, leave your car there with my van, then after the night ride we've a car and van there to take 6 people and bikes back London bound between us (including us 2).

So Justin can leave his car in London?

So J just drives straight to the start? Then between you and I we can get him, his +1, and the bikes back to his car afterwards.

That's too simple! smile

When I had a look before, the outbound route seemed the most sensible compromise of directness and quietness of roads. Reversing that would make sense, even if it isn't the most interesting thing to do...

That's fine, can't seem to find a definitive route though, got a link?

Good point. I'm not sure there's a published route as such, but I downloaded someone's trace from a previous year.

I think it was this one:

Link to export as gpx is on the right.

Good-o. Happy to still go with your original suggestion re timings and speed?

richardxjr said:
Lets say an easy 20kph moving avg, 1-1.5 hours of stops. 8am start from Dunwich (I know, early, but) gets us to London for around 6.30-7pm, away again 8.30 - 9, back for early breakfast.
All that's left to sort out is where in London to dine/meet Justin et al.

I echo the desire for substantial food in London, and also I'm thinking somewhere with outside tables where we can sit with our bikes. Would a gastro-pub suit? Something like Dove Freehouse but maybe with more space around the tables for the bikes?

There's always the Pub on the Park itself, but whether they're taking reservations for Saturday I wouldn't like to guess. I can always phone them and ask.
