I kinda of gave up on this idea, mates of mine who've done it before are keen this year but otherwise engaged on the Etape.
I didn't fancy it on my jack and the sensible coach options (ideally coach from beach to start so I can leave my car up there and drive myself back) were full up.

I am up for it if there is a group to join and anyone has a good idea on transport. Maybe I can partner up with another London/East Surrey/Kent/Sussex driver and we can deploy a car at the beach?
I can't guarantee riding with you but my car will be at the finish; two caveats, the Saab is in surgery so it may be the puma, I can fit two bikes in it but can't guarantee they'll not suffer minor cosmetic damage; I'll be having a good snooze on the beach before driving so don't expect to leave dunwich before 9.
If the Saab is in rude health I'll have capacity for 3 passengers.

Ok I did consider it but now have one of Justin's car spaces (I drove him back last yr). But I think you'd be a bit too fast fixed tbh.

Anyway I'll ride up to the start from Eastbourne instead. Could offer a rolling convoy to anyone in or near the M23 corridor?

Fingers crossed for you SPB. Cracking write-up, which made me even more envious that I couldn't join you. Sounds like a proper adventure and another solid riding story in the archive. 2016 is in the diary and it will require a bloody good reason to miss it next year.

What about water? I was assuming an all-night garage etc. at least every 20-25 miles so getting hold of more fluid wouldn't be a problem, but some things I'm reading suggest I might be a bit presumptuous here and carrying a bit more might be a good idea.

I've decided a new light is a good idea as I realised I've only ever ridden about 15 miles in the dark at a time and when I thought about it I recall getting tunnel vision even then.

My original thought was not to get anything too blinding and use the natural light (fingers crossed) as much as possible, but then I thought there would inevitably be loads of people with 1000 lumen floodlights and any sensitivity to the dark would be lost when passing them, so I'm shooting for a 6-750 lumen main light which I can run at a lower output for extended run time.

Excuse to buy some new kit with minimal spousal grumbling, really biggrin

Oh, and I get the whole gig with the Dynamo, I most certainly won't be racing anything or anybody. There's RideLondon for that.

2 water bottles, a beer stop and then pop up stops along the way, you'll be fine smile

6hrs of 250lumens should do you.

Again, warm things to put on in the dead of night. Got bloody cold out there for a few hours!

I'm committed to coming having nabbed a spot in Justin's car.

Will be hitting ebay for a cree front light or similar. There's an awful lot of forum matter to read on what to get, but thanks for the above lumen/hrs estimate!

A 4-cell cree jobbie on low should work alright although it can be a bit of a lottery with Chinese batteries.

Anyway, importantly, we need some PH identification. I reckon flashing blue police style lamps with sirens on our helmets. Any better ideas?

I massively over thought(under researched) my first DunRun, had a seat mounted double bottle cage so I had enough water to do 112 mi unsupported.
Totally unneeded, in the first half of the ride from London to Sudbury there's a petrol station at Epping, various pubs including a very busy stop at Moreton, Great Dunmow and Finchingfield also have places open, in Sudbury there's a bike shop open and a whole bunch of kebab shops and takeaways. From Sudbury it's 56 miles to the end so two full bidons is plenty but you'll still have various pubs then pop up coffee shops, burger vans, tea tents all the way out to Framlingham and beyond.
You'll not desiccate or starve smile

I dug through the parts box last night and found these, a present from my mother in law a couple of Christmases ago.

Sadly they are a schrader and my 2yr old broke one last night, but I might see if I can fix/insulation tape/cable tie them to the spokes or something. Is that the dun thing?

You need some of these...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/331840165079?lpid=1...

...in fact you may already have some, if you've a track pump or a 12v compressor kicking around.

I used a couple to mount some of those 'magic clour changing' valve cap lights on my winter bike this year (jokey birthday gift from my wife, don't ask... rolleyes ) and loved having them on during wet winter night rides. My lights have a light/motion sensor too, so only come on when it's dark AND you are moving. Downside is that the batteries don't last very long at all in use - they're aimed more at kids and commuters I think, not idiots who do century rides in deepest, darkest December.
