No, my phone won't last all day & night anyway, especially with the gps going!
The power demands of the app are negligible. GPS itself is a receive only radio and really doesn't take any power to speak of. What drains the battery on a phone above all else is the screen. Most people associate GPS with mapping apps that use the screen, and will have experienced battery drain using them. The Real Time Tracker 2 app however is intended to be run in the background, screen off. It does use your data connection to send your position to its server periodically, which will use a smidgen of juice, but there are options to limit the frequency and even to do so only when you're being actively tracked - when one of your app buddies is on their phone or pc looking for you.
I've experimented by running it overnight vs not running it overnight, both times starting with a fully charged phone, and the battery level in the morning seemed no different.
Of course, all that won't help you if your phone won't last overnight in the first place. But that's where battery packs and dynamo hubs come in

First time Dun Runner here. A friend and I have decided to give it a go this year. We're both semi keen cyclists, 25 miles @ @ 15mph on a Saturday is the usual distance; is the Dunwich Dynamo beyond us?
Equipment wise we've got:
Gels
Energy bars
Tyre levers
Pump
Spare tubes
Light jumper and jogging bottoms for any rest points where we cool off
Tube of cream
Battery pack for my phone
Spare batteries for my lights
Luminous cycling jacket in case it gets chilly
Gloves
I'm going to be picking up a couple of caffeine drinks and flap jacks for more energy throughout the ride. Am I forgetting anything?

We had a blast! Set off at 19.45 in the end and were on the beach by 6.50. Rode with a few PHers, was great to meet you all, Martin, idiotgap and the gentleman with the black road bike, black gear and red Kask helmet (apologies, I never caught your name!). Certainly brightened up those last 20 miles seeing friendly faces! I've just got home, still running on zero sleep.
We'll be doing it again next year for sure!

That was me..the man is black and red. We'll be doing it again next year for sure!
It was good to ride with you when I had lost everyone else. The bit and the 3md when I went past you, I just want3d to get to the beach so didn't stop to chat.
It was a great ride, one of the b3st Dun Runs I've done. It's always a bit more fun riding with others.
Ps: I'm still on the coach. Decision time soon...should I cycled home...?
Cracking ride chaps and thanks for taking time to chat and ride with Jr along the way.
Just seen this which is kinda cool

Great day (night?) on the bike, thanks to all and sorry again for missing you at the start. Worked out well in the end though for the last 50 miles, despite the ropey burgers.
Eventually got back at about 1245 after stopping at a farm shop near Dunwich for a full English and an emergency South Mimms stop because I nearly ran out of diesel

Was my first time doing this ride and had an amazing time! Departed just after 20:00 and got to the beach by 3:30 and managed a full breakfast before sunrise! Said a cheery hello to a couple of PH Jerseys i spotted along the route! Although the coach journey back was nearly as long as the ride there.
Hopefully make it next year!

Don't think I saw you as you'd have been ahead of me but you must've been motoring and/or not stopped for very long. I left about 8.40 and got to the beach at 6.20, but that was with a 1+ hr stop at the White Horse in Great Waldingfield.Hopefully make it next year!
btw, according to Strava flyby I left London Fields at almost the exact same time, to the second, as the rest of you left the pub!
I also see than if I'd stopped at Moreton for another 5 minutes you'd have caught me there.
