Lets say an easy 20kph moving avg, 1-1.5 hours of stops. 8am start from Dunwich (I know, early, but) gets us to London for around 6.30-7pm, away again 8.30 - 9, back for early breakfast.

Need to sort where to rest/eat in E.London, meet up with PH 1 wayers that isn't going to be rammed.

Curry ?!
Some of the best curries in London are to be found in Brick Lane. So are the best bike thieves though. Thinking cap going on...

Lock 7 cycle cafe is just around the corner. How busy it will be I don't know

That evening feed and sit down will be a bit critical. I'd like to be booked in somewhere tbh.
Perhaps we should stop at a friendly country-ish pub for pie before we get to busy East London?

10am start from Dunwich 9pm from London?

Dinner reservations makes a lot of sense. There's that pub we stopped at in Moreton last time, but I'll try and find somewhere in town that suits. It'd be better I think to be nearish the start if possible so we can relax until it's time to go. I'll ask around, Google and stuff and if all that fails I can always do a recce round East London one day between now and the event.

edit - I'll assume there'll be half a dozen of us, all with bikes.

I am not a cyclist (good start to a reply eh?) but why Dunwich? I live about 7 miles as the crow flies and there is bugger all there and probably less as the years go by! So how did this all start?

I'll have to leave it to the run veterans explain why Dunwich was originally chosen, if there ever was a reason.

But the fact it's such a daft place to go makes it more appealing. Frankly, the whole endeavour is daft. Why ruin that by going somewhere worthwhile?

A thought. Stage 3 was a club TT shorter at 100 miles, and on that we met to leave at 10am, rode harder than proposed for this leg, also stopped twice, but didn't arrive until, what, 8pm?

If we're concerned about keeping plenty of energy back and having time for a proper meal, those timings would imply we want to be rolling out at 9am latest. If not an hour earlier still, as the extra 10-12 miles would need an extra 50-60 minutes at the easy pace we're talking about. I'm beginning to think richardxjr's suggested time wasn't so early...

On the bright side, there'd be no traffic on the drive up smile

I'm a bit confused now with who's doing what.

From my view - no way am I riding into London. One steady 100 mile ride through the night is one thing when you are quite fresh, but after you have ridden 100 miles in beforehand? Put it this way, when the Stage 3 guys arrived in London, would you have really wanted to turn around and ride straight back again within a couple of hours?

For me it is not only the two hundred miles... it's the near twenty hours in the saddle!

So could anyone suggest the best way for me to leave my car somewhere where I can get it relatively easily after the finish please, and how best to get into London for the start. I'm happy to come in early Saturday or Friday night.

Ta smile

Burriana/others, there should be Justin's car and my van in Dunwich to take some people back to London late Sun morning.

Time for a list?

Both ways

Funnily enough, yes. I felt great at that point...

But then the run into London had been at a moderate pace. It has to be said that I was absolutely cooked prior to the second stop, after I'd bridged from the PH peloton up to the Richardxjr/Gruffy breakaway and tried running with them for a bit before dropping off. I evidentially will need to manage my effort levels much more sensibly but I'm prepared to believe those that tell me a double century is doable, even by me, if the pace is kept low.

It is going to be long day in the saddle though. No getting away from that. But nothing all those Audaxers don't do.

I think the idea is to let everyone know where we'll be refuelling in London, and those that want to ride one way can join us there.

Sorry to throw another idea in, we could pedal to Cambridge and train down, it's a different service provider and there's no restrictions, it'd chop 40 miles off and allow for a lunch time departure from Suffolk.
Thoughts?

Yep, like that Justin. More interesting than riding the same road both ways tbh.

Just trying to make sure we are fresh enough to keep up with your 'Yorkshire has all the hills' legs wink

Edit to add, might work for you too, Cambridge is easily accessible by road, could meet you there, train into London for the start, an easy place to drop you back to after the finish.

Hate to encourage this bout of sensibleness, but could we not even try catching the train from Stowmarket to Cambridge? I know it's Abellio but it's going the other way...

Justin, I am not particularly unfit, but after 100 miles, through the night, I will be ready for a nice sit down... and not on a bike.

Unless people are used to regularly doing 150+ mile rides, the second leg after a through the night may well catch them out.

I'm just trying to find the best way to leave my car somewhere and be able to get back to it after the event without having to ride a bike. It is currently looking like a logistical pain in the ass!

B, the through the night mass ride is the return leg (for us few) London to Dunwich.

We're trying to work out how to leave cars in Dunwich (to bring us and others back home after the night ride) and get back to London with our bikes for the evening start smile

If you park at Cambridge (or one of the other stations), come into London with us lot on the train, then we can drop you back at the station by car after the night ride.

I'm so gutted my selfish friends have arranged their wedding for Dunwich weekend. All these silly ideas are right up my street.

I was wondering why you'd been quiet on this one wink

I'll most likely have a spare 6+ hour front light and battery if anyone needs one. Chinese owl melter but decent, one of a pair I've been using for yonks. Just running down, testing and recharging now. Bar mount XML-T6 with remote battery and lead long enough to reach into a saddlepack. Bring a back up commuter one too though.

Please could any PHers have non blinking and not too bright back lights !
