The Dunwich Dynamo 2015 thread

I kinda of gave up on this idea, mates of mine who've done it before are keen this year but otherwise engaged on the Etape.
I didn't fancy it on my jack and the sensible coach options (ideally coach from beach to start so I can leave my car up there and drive myself back) were full up.
I am up for it if there is a group to join and anyone has a good idea on transport. Maybe I can partner up with another London/East Surrey/Kent/Sussex driver and we can deploy a car at the beach?
I can't guarantee riding with you but my car will be at the finish; two caveats, the Saab is in surgery so it may be the puma, I can fit two bikes in it but can't guarantee they'll not suffer minor cosmetic damage; I'll be having a good snooze on the beach before driving so don't expect to leave dunwich before 9. If the Saab is in rude health I'll have capacity for 3 passengers.

Fingers crossed for you SPB. Cracking write-up, which made me even more envious that I couldn't join you. Sounds like a proper adventure and another solid riding story in the archive. 2016 is in the diary and it will require a bloody good reason to miss it next year.

I propose we rewrite rule 5 to just read:
What would SixPotBelly do?
Great write up. I will 100% be up for this next year.
So guys what's it to be ;DWhat would SixPotBelly do?

I massively over thought(under researched) my first DunRun, had a seat mounted double bottle cage so I had enough water to do 112 mi unsupported.
Totally unneeded, in the first half of the ride from London to Sudbury there's a petrol station at Epping, various pubs including a very busy stop at Moreton, Great Dunmow and Finchingfield also have places open, in Sudbury there's a bike shop open and a whole bunch of kebab shops and takeaways. From Sudbury it's 56 miles to the end so two full bidons is plenty but you'll still have various pubs then pop up coffee shops, burger vans, tea tents all the way out to Framlingham and beyond.
You'll not desiccate or starve

A 4-cell cree jobbie on low should work alright although it can be a bit of a lottery with Chinese batteries.
Anyway, importantly, we need some PH identification. I reckon flashing blue police style lamps with sirens on our helmets. Any better ideas?

go the whole hog and get revolights

I have a set of the rears which will be on jr's bike, contemplating a second one.

You're dead right. I got these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131459695952 they fit beautifully and consequently I will be rocking up to the dynamo with my flaming chariots, superglue seems to be working well on the one my 2yr old broke.
I also bought one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122013838778
Now pondering luggage options:-
- travel light
- use my old specialized allez which has rack mountings and a single pannier (big plus being I have all the kit)
- try to fit the rack to the colnago with pclips (may damage carbon or offend the rules?)
- justify purchase of big saddle bag (I do commute a fair bit on the colnago)
- gruffy style frame mounted luggage
You're not going off to discover new continents...I also bought one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122013838778

usual tools and tubes, waterproof, money will be enough; maybe another layer if forecast is cool.

I've usually done this with my brother but as he's going to Hong Kong on the Sunday he's decided not to do it.
As he let me know quite late, I thought I might not do it due to the hasle of getting home...but I did somehow manage to get a coach ticket even though they'd sold out.
I'm still not 100% committed yet as my left knee was twitching a bit after riding fixed on the weekend and I haven't done much riding at all. If it feels ok by the end of the week, I'll be up for it.
It'll be my 5th one on the trot! ??

First time Dun Runner here. A friend and I have decided to give it a go this year. We're both semi keen cyclists, 25 miles @ @ 15mph on a Saturday is the usual distance; is the Dunwich Dynamo beyond us?
Equipment wise we've got:
Gels
Energy bars
Tyre levers
Pump
Spare tubes
Light jumper and jogging bottoms for any rest points where we cool off
Tube of cream
Battery pack for my phone
Spare batteries for my lights
Luminous cycling jacket in case it gets chilly
Gloves
I'm going to be picking up a couple of caffeine drinks and flap jacks for more energy throughout the ride. Am I forgetting anything?
