Just off the phone. No bike spaces left on the Saturday frown

Whereabouts are you based SPB?

Shame. I'm up for cycling both ways then. Happy if J wants to join at Brentwood, giving him a later start from home and a lot fewer miles to ride.

I'm near J24 M25. It'd add a good 1-1.5 hours to someone's drive to/from Sussex to go via here, if that's what you're thinking. Besides, I'm sold on the double century now. Happy to transport a body to/from anywhere vaguely along my route in either direction, but I've only space for the one bike in the boot.

I'm still up for Cambridge.
Having my car anywhere but the end means we have more riders than seats, we also have capacity for more to join us with it there.

Works for me.

I've got memory-map with all the OS 1:50k and 1:25k maps. Want me to plot a nice backroad route there for consideration?

cool

Options for one-wayers - hitch a ride with us back London-bound or ride on to Ipswich Station with
your pre-booked cycle reservation.

Got a gps file Justin? Don't want to end up like this seasoned traveller chap

I think we crossed there again smile

I can create a route and put up a gpx file as a candidate. I'll have time on Saturday to plot one, if not before.

Guys - thanks for all the consideration but it is looking a bit complicated for what I thought might be a quick trip down South for a 100 miles and a bit of a laugh.

I suspect I am also about to be collared for a day's filming in High Wycombe on Sunday 5th :-(

All the more reason to do it, if you've got to come down this way anyway smile

I'll be doing it again this year , will be my 4th time. Absolutely love it!

I've always dropped a car off at Dunwich on Saturday and not had to wait for a coach. I should be doing that with my brother this year, and as he lives near Sudbury, just an hour drive back to a bed.

I couldn't imagine driving all the way back to London afterwards..ask Swerni who drove me back a couple of years ago!

A mate of mine said he's keen to do it this year as are some of his work mates. He's a bit of a plodder so may just take it easy and enjoy it, stopping off now and then.

I need to up my mileage as the weekend before I will be at Glastonbury, on the sauce and off the bike for 5 or 6 days!

Sadly, I am unable to make the Dunwich Dynamo this year. frown

I will be travelling to Stackpole, West Wales, that Saturday, for a National Trust working holiday. Building/repairing cycle paths of some sort, so at least it's bike-related.

Best of luck to all those riding the Dynamo, though thumbup

Will you be in a PH jersey? On the Dun Run, not at Glastonbury. smile

I have to admit, the thought of driving into central London afterwards (and back out again) wouldn't appeal to me either. I find that knackering enough normally, when I haven't just spent the vast majority of the preceding 24 hours riding a bike! Sitting with the cruise on down the A12 & around the M25 isn't too daunting though.

No, I don't have a PH jersey, too much white on them for me. 😊

If Swerni's going, he's easy to spot even without a PH smiley on his shirt.

Definitely up for all meeting at the start, but not sure if we'd stay together due to differing speeds a d leaving g times. I've always tended to leave just after 8. I wouldn't mi d Lea ing a bit later as part of the fun is riding with others and seeing trails of tail lights over the rolling hills ahead.

Good on you lot for doing the double but I'd rather not. That said, I did the 1st half last year at quite a slow pace, much quicker on the 2nd half after my brother got over "bonking"(not like that!) And so at the end, I felt like I could have carried on riding.

I wouldn't recommend stopping at the official midway stop(about 60 miles in) but to rather stop afterwards at one of the many pubs that stay open. There's less crowding, you may even get a seat. ☺

Can't wait, it's a great night, can't imagine a year without doing it.

As long as I get a beer in Moreton and a tea in the Yurt 80 miles in I'm happy, I may have to refrain from the beach as only ever going as far as the cafe has become a thing.

Stopping again at Moreton is nailed on, I'd say. You can't imagine how pleased I was to see that pub on Stage 3!

Anywhere else people want to is fine by me too.

How about this for a first draft?

Dun-bridge route draft I

I've used unclassified country roads almost exclusively, avoided Stowmarket, Bury and Newmarket, and tried to pick sensible places to cross the trunk A roads.

One of the problems I found is there are very few, if any, roads that go east-west in that part of the country. So there'd be zig-zagging much of the way whichever route we took. But that'll stop it getting boring smile

Comments, complaints, criticisms?

This is an old route but not much further to London!

http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Dunwich-Dynam...

I think your first bit is maybe too zig zaggy, not that I know owt about the area. How does that route I linked look following their Dunwich to the 105km marker then up to Haverhill then Cambridge?

That would take us quite a bit further south before heading north west back up to Cambridge. My gut feeling is it would be longer, being two sides of a triangle, but give me a little while and I'll plot it out and see smile

As things stand if Al can't make it we don't need to ride into London, lets wait and see if anyone else is coming?

The road to Cambridge via Haverhill is A-road, and Dual Carriage in places at that. But it is 4km shorter. I'm a wuss and I'd be much happier on back roads. There aren't any that are any more direct that the ones from Dunwich in draft I though.

via Haverhill

edit - scratch that. There's an obvious back road I missed via Balsham. Stand by...

via Balsham

But I take Justin's point that riding both ways is no longer necessary. I'll put these on ice pending further developments.
