I've rewarded it by ordering a 2 to 6 speed conversion kit, hopefully the extra range of gears will make up for the weight increase from adding the hub gear.
Are you able to cancel that?

I've been considering the 8 speed SA hub from Kinetics Online:

Didn't you see many Bromptons in Paris then? From what I have read on the internet, they are becoming very fashionable in the far east and they are popular in the US too. I just kinda assumed that there were popular n Europe too.
I didn't see another Brompton, I expected to see a few on the Eurostar but I was the only one. Around Paris it mostly seemed to be Boris-style hire bikes and fixies.

It's out for delivery today from Brilliant Bikes, so probably a bit too late unless I returned it. Thanks for the offer though!

Well I got my voucher sorted and placed the order on Sunday.

They're quoting 5-6 weeks for delivery, which is a pain as I'm racking up costs on the hire bike, and it's not in the best shape.

But I've measured up some old riser bars I had from an old bike and they're the correct diameter. I may need to hacksaw the ends off, but I'll wait until I have the bike to decide how much.

I have noticed the difference in the ability to filter through traffic with the narrower M bars compared to my Dahon. So I may see how much real estate I need first for lights, grips and bar ends and then try and make them as narrow as possible.

What spec/colour did you go for? I was all up for going down the custom route, but impatience got the better of me biggrin

The picture I posted on the previous page.

Lime Green all over. H6.

As I say, I'm going to swap the bars for risers to make the final bar height somewhere between an S and an M.

I've only seen one other Lime Green and it looked great.

Just wish I didn't have to wait so long.

Luckily, the voucher's coming through Cyclescheme, so I can avoid Evans and use my local bike shop instead. (Saddle Safari in Marlow.)

I'm racing in the Brompton World Championship in a month, in Regent's Park.

Should be fun.

I've just been on a 20k off-roading adventure on mine. I forget how much fun they can be. I think I need to spend a bit of cash to get it tuned up as it does get neglected compared to anything else mechanical that I own, but its a great bike.

Fitted a brooks saddle today. Had a short test ride but it's hilly here and I've only got two gears (and suspected cracked ribs after mtb fall on rocks on Sunday). Have just ordered the firm suspension block and some easy wheels. The saddle is the honey coloured version - only chose it as it was discounted at the recent Eroica bike event in nearby Bakewell. I think it works well with the black frame.

How do those bars work with the fold?

I've done 16 miles on mine now. Its going pretty well so far. So much easier now that I don't have to strap the bike to a pole on the train. For the first few journeys, I did choose a seat where I could keep an eye on it just in case it looked like it was about to fall over, but so far so good smile

I really wish I'd paid the extra and gone for the Brooks saddle. Its early days, but I'm not really getting on with the standard saddle. Might require some more tweaking and maybe it will improve with some more miles.

I've ordered some helicopter tape, which I will apply to every area where the cables rub. Don't want to ruin the finish on the frame.

The s-bag is great for easily clipping to the front of the bike, but that is where my compliments end. The way I view it is, its a £100 frame with a £10 bag attached. I have been using rucksacks for years and every single one of them has had extra pickets inside for pens USB sticks, computer mice and various other bits that you keep in a rucksack. The Bromtpton bag has two pen slots and that's it. Considering their market, I was quite surprised by the lack of extra pockets inside the bag.

When I get round to it, I might contact Brompton about it. Not sure what outcome I'm expecting though.

Here's mine folded up at the office smile

Do the gear levers still rattle?, if not I'll change mine. Cable tie around the too cheap lever looks a bit naff!

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks the bags are overpriced tat.

Just surprised that there doesn't appear to be any third party manufacturers making them.

Bags - when I did my research I did find one or two non-brompton options and some examples of DIY eg briefcase with the brompton mount added.
Bull horn bars - judging by some of the google search results they will fold but don't use the existing clip. Some have added a quick release to help the process.

Carradice and Ortlieb do, pricey options though.

Completed my 2 to 6 speed conversion at the weekend. I'm pleased with it so far, I can now hit 40mph on the hill down to the station - and get back up it a little easier...

I just fitted easy wheels and a firm suspension block (and the rubber bung / brake for seat post).
Wish I had done both somewhat sooner. The ride is much less bouncy with the firm block. Feels much better.
The easy wheels make pushing the around much easier. I used to find it a bit rubbish before.

Are there any build details for this? I really like it. I've been thinking of taking my mud guards off and changing the bars anyway.
