It's something they should maybe think about for next time, being able to link your confirmation with a mate/s who has also been accepted. I'm sure most people would pay a few quid extra to cover the costs or for charity or whatever.
There was a neutralised section before you rolled over the official start line which commenced chip timing, that was on the A12 and is where the various starting points all converge. I saw various groups and individuals waiting along that section. See page 9 of thisEqually, I saw plenty of people mixed up in the loading pens, the staff didn't seem too bothered and it was all good natured.
This was in 2013.

That was true in 2013 (official start on A12 some way after start line) but last year the official start was right at the beginning.
However in both years the marshalls haven't been at all bothered by people changing pens.
Obviously may be different this year.
Might see if I can get in with him, or him with me. However in both years the marshalls haven't been at all bothered by people changing pens.

There is a window when you can enter your pen, up to that point you can drop your bag of in the relevant truck. In theory if the pen closes you cannot ride. It means that you will need to carry warmers if you want them between pen closing and your release time.
Fingers crossed the weather is a little drier than last year!

Another question, how late do you give your 'kit bag' in at the start, do you have it until you're about to roll off the line?
Just wondering about getting some arm and leg warmers to wear for standing around at the start but not to have to carry with me for the ride.
Might be easier to get on eBay and buy the cheapest tracksuit you can find then bin it. Alternatively maybe a bin bag? Once you've dropped your kit bag off that is it till then end.Just wondering about getting some arm and leg warmers to wear for standing around at the start but not to have to carry with me for the ride.
Well, I will inexplicably be on my tod now, as m'colleague has totally bottled it (don't ask, I can't explain it any better than you could) . Anyone in the wave leaving at 7.30 sees a lonely looking bloke is in cheap as chips Belkin shorts and a Wye Valley Brewery jersey do come and say hello

My start time is 07:12, and the guy I've been training with is 07:48. Does anyone have a view on the best way to try to start as close in time as possible? Looking at the route in the magazine it looks like there's no neutralized zone this year, so no chance to sit and wait for him before the start line.
A few people have said they've been pretty lax on who goes in which pen before - does that mean they let people of the wrong colour into a pen, or they're quite strict on colour but not wave start time.
I'm trying to figure out whether there's a chance he can join me in my wave despite having a different start colour, or whether he's better off trying to get into an earlier wave in his colour

I have a feeling if you are late for your start time they let join the next one, but if you are early I think they are more strict and won't let you go earlier. I could be wrong though!A few people have said they've been pretty lax on who goes in which pen before - does that mean they let people of the wrong colour into a pen, or they're quite strict on colour but not wave start time.

I'm in exactly the same predicament, mine is 7:09 - his is 6:24.. I'm going to be riding across from our parking space to the start with him, so will be stood around waiting. I'll try and get in with him but doubt it.
