So the 3rd fastest was a 50 year old hehe

Good to see he is still riding, was hard work when I raced against him!

I don't think the timing question is the best way to do it for the reasons you state. You could have timing based upon previous results + similar events (which they already have). But you could also more subjective questions that people could scale and classify themselves more easily.
1) Race licence
2) Quick club rider
3) Average club rider
4) Slow but steady
5) Just happy to finish to be honest. I'll be weaving all over the shop and walking up hills.
It's difficult though, I do a different sport throughout the year and cycle in the summer for fun. Still got 4hr20min yesterday, and think I held my line better than some, didn't spit onto the bloke to the side of them (happened about 5 times, pretty funny) and was shocked how going up the 'hills' was more a task of getting past others than getting up the 'hill'

Should I as a non-club or all year cyclist, yet still athletic individual not get to ride amongst the faster riders?

Surely as long as it is a 'sportive' where you are not meant to be racing, you will always get such a disparity between those who are racing in all but name, those who are fast non-cyclists and those who are there for the challenge....

Like I said, people could scale and classify themselves. You'd be able to categorise yourself within that scale surely?

Okgo have you downloaded all the results? I cannot see where the finishing times are listed in order? Last year someone ran a macro which downloaded the results to a webpage to see where peoples non-race position was.

Just carry 2x 750ml bottles. I stopped once to refill, took a couple minutes, then another couple minutes to piss it out again 15km from the end. I'm sure I benefitted from these 2 brief stops. Being closed roads there weren't any traffic light stops which can be a bit of a relief on a longer ride.
Indeed, this, although I took 2x 750's but still had to stop twice for refills.

Was good to stop and stretch although hate to think how muh I sweat given my p**s was still worse than apple juice at the end...

Did it a couple of mins over 5 hrs - really please with that as this was probably my first proper 'race' sportive :-)

Totally loved it - you can't beat a closed road ride, was buzzing cycling through London.

Personally, I think they need to take out Leith Hill as it is too dangerous. Luckily I got through ok but with so many riders walking and fast ones wizzing up and the road tightening up; it is a recipe for disaster.

Looks like a London Dynamo and a Twickenham rider to me, thought you said you were on the front? hehe

they need to reduce the total number taking part - 20000+ is just way too many.
Why do you say that Pachydermus? The event is massively oversubscribed - 4 people apply for every place. And when you take out the charity places (what is the number, 10,000, 15,000?) that only leaves you 10,000 or so places. Why can't they have more entries, and maybe spread the start pens out a little more.
I think part of the problem is having to clear the course for the professionals, although the course would have to be cleared at some point anyway.

It seemed half the riders on the day were London Dynamo or Dulwich

Has anyone got a link to the whole results in some sort of downloadable form / summerised anywhere?

My time was 7.05, but i can see at least 50 minutes of enforced stoppage on strava, mainly on 2 of the splits. I'd love to see how my overall time and splits compare to the general field - strava is no use because it reckons i deviated from every ride100 segment and i'm buggered if i'm making my own to clutter everyone else's feed...

Oh, and Dizzy and co - i am dissapoint. Where were the ph jerseys at the sharp end of the field?

Finished at about 10.35? If so, then it was you I spotted. I was not identifiable as a PHer...
Maybe not then : was done at 10:20 :-)
Was milling about at the end to get my bag though!

yes sure if they could move or remove the pro's then they could probably allow more entries but within the current circumstances I think there are too many riders to allow the event to run safely - I saw far more serious incidents yesterday than on any of the other events I've done (5 getting stuffed into ambulances) and I, for one, won't be applying to do it again.

Is it worth putting on for less people, keeping in mind the costs and disruptions I'd say no!
