All I can say is that I was looking forward to it before reading this thread and now it just sounds like there will be a st load of peloton fantasists taking it too seriosuly!
What were you expecting? If you want a gentle stroll stick a picnic basket to your Pashley and enjoy your cheese & wine Vocal Minority said:

While I am not sportives biggest fan one has to wonder - does it matter what everyone else is doing if you just want to enjoy the ride at your own pace? okgo said:

Won't bother me in the slightest. I'm hoping to have a natter with strangers at "middle" club run pace. If the wuick lads want to zoom past, fair play to them! The worst bit for me will be if people get off on a hill and walk 2 abreast pushing bikes. Pet hate on sportives...
If anyone is worried about parking, most of Tower Hamlets is free on a Sunday, though it can be a bit busy. Below is link to a map of parking zones but keep in mind with the A12 and Highway closed for the ride the traffic will be a bit heavy.

Well then don't go in with too many hopes, the skill spread on RideLondon is much wider than a typical sportive- lots more low experience "fun" riders... although this is mostly accommodated for by the fact its closed roads so you can stay on the wrong side of the road and bypass most numbties.Oh, i'm just going for the fun of experiencing a closed road, and the chance to see bits on London i'd normally never even consider riding a bike through. Not aiming to set a time, or to try to get selected for team sky.
I'm sure on the nicer parts, i'll be lumped in with the muppets - so i can take in the view wherever it's nice
I will NOT be walking up any hills tho!!

I think I was just in a bit of a bad mood with the world when I wrote that...sorry chaps. I am aware we are talking the 100 mile ride, just never been one for obsessing over my power etc etc,- I am going along to have fun rather than 'do a time' as it were.

Fair enough :-) If you see someone wearing a mumu jersey then say hello, I promise I don't own a power meter ;-)My start time is 7.30 as it happens
My aim is to do it in the 5.5 hours I put down on my registration.

What's the usual protocol for meeting mates who have different start times?
I've heard about stopping a mile outside the start? Will this not affect your time recorded?
Luckily he's only 30 mins infront of me..
IIRC the timing mat was on the A12 about a mile from the start, most people stop about here on the right hand bend of Waterden Road, just before the tight left onto the A12 and wait for friends. Its literally 100m after the start and if you are off the road, the marshals wont mind. I've heard about stopping a mile outside the start? Will this not affect your time recorded?

It's something they should maybe think about for next time, being able to link your confirmation with a mate/s who has also been accepted. I'm sure most people would pay a few quid extra to cover the costs or for charity or whatever. I've heard about stopping a mile outside the start? Will this not affect your time recorded?
