Very odd what happened with the "sprint finish" there. The cameras missed Stybar ride off the front and all I could see once he'd gone was Sagan looking backwards for a wheel.

Confirmed, broken collar bone.

I imagine Froome is desperate for someone else to take the Yellow jersey as its not brought luck to most this year.

Probably adrenaline but it is Tony Martin so he might actually ride anyway!

Martin confirmed as abandonment.
I blame Froome.

Quite fascinating how that final km played out, not sure i was expecting a sprint with the usual suspects but pleased for Stybar

Unfortunately not, statement from EQS team doctor:

"Unfortunately, the collarbone is a lateral fracture," Team Doctor Helge Riepenhof said. "The collarbone is in lots of pieces, so it was a major impact. One of the pieces came through the skin, which means it's an open fracture. Therefore, even if it was Tony's wish to start tomorrow, I have to say he is not allowed to. Riders always want to race. Tony especially. He's shown in the last years that even with broken bones that he will race if possible. But this is a medical situation where this is impossible. He needs surgery straight away, and that is why we are going to the hospital now. We will fix the collarbone there. He is already on antibiotics. It's a serious injury, and that is why we can't risk anything and why he cannot be at the start tomorrow."

Gutted for Martin. It appears the yellow jersey is a fickle prize this first week.

Oh yes, to emphasise the HARD AS NAILS point - Martin did the interviews and podium time with an open fracture!

Bugger.

What on earth was Nibali doing throwing a wobbly at Froome?

Because he knocked him off whether or not it was intended he still wanted to apologise, Nibbles was still a knob about it though !

As I saw it, Martin clips the rear wheel of the Europcar in front which pitches him right and into Nibbles. Nibbles then goes right and there is contact with Froome who managed to stay upright but dismounted before someone else rear ended Nibbles and ends up on top of him.

How it was Froome's fault is beyond me but I guess Nibbles is somewhat frustrated at the moment and isnt looking forwards to the prospect of having to gain 2 minutes on Froome before Paris so had a teddy bnear/pram incident. Bless.

I couldn't understand why/how a rider of Martin's calibre made the move right that he did; it looked a proper swerve on the telly for no reason. He must be gutted.

I can only assume the Europcar rider slowed down unexpectedly causing Martin to take evasie action or Martin saw a gap on the right went for it and misjudged the space avaialble. IIRC it was one of the steeper bits of that climb so possibly the former rather than the latter.

I've no idea how Nibali thought it was Froome's fault either. He was the one that clattered into Froome!

Credit to Sky for opting not to dress Froome in the yellow jumper or "yellow-ise" his bike today.

I still can't see who hit who in the shade, only camera on them seems to have been the helicopter which is not clear either way shame for Martin.

Not their choice.
