I'd welcome that. It works both ways. Whoever posts it be sure to add a link here so we can add to it as well. There are as many bad cyclists as drivers on the roads.

It's the "Road Traffic Act" and it doesn't matter if we're on pushbikes or any other vehicle we are traffic and hav to respect the rules equally.

Is it really worth it? most people are aware of the danger points on the routes they regularly ride, I'm not going to be able to remember car registrations to think "ah better watch out for this Peugeot, it was reported on the thread" and stuff like this just breeds anger and resentment between road users and marks us out as whining lycra clad busybodies out to further antagonise motorists.

sorry to hear about the incident though.

With respect all this thread does is make you look like a militant cyclist which gives everyone a bad name. Do yourself a favour, chill out, lose the camera and enjoy riding your bike.

I could add to this thread 99% of the times I cycled if I let stupid/dangerous motorists bother me. I prefer to ignore them and enjoy my ride

What a pointless thread.

OP, given your track record of posting rants aimed at car drivers (see this thread: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... I'm starting to think that you leave the house with the mentality of arguing with evil car drivers.

I'm no anti-cyclist motorist, far from it. I lived in NYC for four years, I commuted on a bike through Manhattan. I know what it's like dealing with people who didn't see you, or did see you but just don't care. You learn to predict it, avoid it, and if it happens, move on with your life. Seriously, I'm a little bit embarrassed for you based on what I read on this forum, I dread to think how you'd cope with inner city riding.

How do you look out for specific cars approaching from behind whilst riding your bike? And even if you do manage to see them what exactly are you going to do?

Pointless thread.

Another pedestrian bumped in to me whilst I was walking down the pavement yesterday. Should I record that too?

I think you are all being down on the OP here. Whilst this may not be the best way to go about it, I cannot understand how you can just turn the other cheek and allow the careless drivers and the deliberately aggressive drivers to get away with it. Driving is a right you have to earn, and you should be made to keep earning it. Just because you passed your driving test (maybe 50+ years ago!) it doesn't make you a good driver. If you don't drive with due care and attention, or go out of your way to scare/intimidate/assault other road users in your vehicle, you should have your licence taken away from you.

I don't want to be (or seen to be) a militant car-hating cyclist, but I am damned if I am going to let people drive badly around me.

My gosh am I turning into Rob Newman? yikes

I was hoping to be in the middle here but as I'm not willing to sit on a fence that makes militant?

I have never and will never tar all drivers with the same brush. I'm a keen and passionate driver myself. I was passed safely by an Astra and Corsa before I was hit by the 307 and a woman driving an Audi Q5 not only avoided me but stopped and offered to help.

I only have an issue with the driver of the 307.

That issue is shared with the Cambridgeshire Police who are taking this hit and run as seriously as the last time.

I'm glad you referenced the first page of my current blog. The opening line says it all...

Back in the Saddle said:
It's been a while since I sold my "Stupid New Years Resolution" bike and I have been recovering from my shoulder and chest injuries.
...that was my last off. Left hook driver hit and run, luckily I got the whole plate that time and the driver was properly dealt with.

I'm sorry if I come across as negative but as I have explained in my blog several times I'm cycling to work and my job is probably the worst dead end of a crap hole I have ever experienced and I constantly question "why do I bother?". That question has encroached into other aspects of my life. Even though cycling to work is one of only a few things about my job I actually like...

"It's not an honest days work if you haven't broken a sweat"

...sometimes while I'm pedaling as fast as I can to minimalise the hold up I create, dressed like a Power Ranger going to a rave and I still get cut up I wonder "why do I bother?" as well.

Why bother staying so far left people think I voted UKIP when I can just as legally ride down the middle of the road?
Why bother wearing more hi-viz than a health and safety conversion when some drivers ignore me anyway?
Why bother pushing myself to go as fast as I can when I can pootle along, weaving about at five miles an hour holding the world up?
Why bother sticking to the Road Traffic Act when sometimes I feel like the only one in the world who fathoms the concept?

Thank you for the constructive critique. I'll try not to focus on the negative so much. The other week when I rode with my nephew home from school it was the most fun I've had on a bike in years.

As for loosing the camera, if it was working Tuesday (the battery shook loose after hitting a pothole a few miles before the collision) the 307 driver would be off the streets now. I've just ordered a proper Go-Pro instead of the cheap crap I've been using to date.

IMO for what it's worth,

It might be worth putting up a thread asking people to look out for this 307, most people have cameras to hand most of the time, ( without going into whether it should be used while sitting traffic or on the move)

I can't see that any driver/cyclist/pedestrian would want to let a hit and run driver get away with this.

Hope you find it if you haven't already.

Whilst I agree that we should not turn the other cheek all the time, what does doing this gain, other than annoying non cyclists who might come across this thread? It's not like it does anything to poor drivers, except maybe annoy a few cycle haters in to hating cyclists more.

I was out driving my peugeot recently and this guy was dressed so brightly that I lost all use of my eyes for 10 minutes, I arrived safely at home with only a minor scuff on my mirror:

You'd be the first person to think of UKIP as left wing, but setting that aside, if you're repeatedly finding drivers passing too closely, then you should move more to the right. You don't have to slalom the cats' eyes, but if you stay too far left, it's too tempting for drivers to try and squeeze through when their spatial awareness lets them (and more importantly you) down.

Yes, you might occasionally feel that you're frustrating people, but frankly if they haven't got room to pass you a metre out from the kerb, then they didn't have room to pass you closer to it either.

Above is a good point.

Please don't take this the wrong way but it might be worth going out with some more experienced riders ot getting yourself some training. I've seen that you have had your fair share of issues and being brutally honest I think it might be more down to your riding style. I've covered about 5-6k per annum for the last 7 years and it feels like I've had less issues than you have this year. I could count the serious ones on one hand.

The mondeo one for example, I didn't really see the issue with it, but if you'd been a bit better positioned then he would have seen you earlier and not pulled as far out.

Contrary to what it might seem like, nobody has set out with the intention of knocking off a cyclist. Everybody just wants to get on with their day.

Seems kind of pointless, what are we going to do, ride around with a list of Reg Plates printed on our stems?
