Mileage seems to be rapdily rising in the last few weeks now the TT season has stopped. Getting out and enjoying the miles in the weather we've been having! Trying to enjoy the evenings as much as possible! Stats below.

Distance 5,209.4 mi
Time 313h 29m
Elev Gain 195,623 ft
Rides 343

Last year I managed 6700 miles, so suspect I'll be a bit short of that, but never know!

I'm stuck on 958 miles and have been since 23rd June. I had three "imperial ton" rides lined up for August and early September :-(

I've been suffering with an 11mm kidney stone in various levels pain, and had a stent fitted 6 weeks ago.

Back in for surgery this week to remove the stent and stone.

Don't anticipate being beck on the bike before early October......

Distance: 1494 mi
Time: 101h 27m
Elev Gain: 35922 ft (not 100% accurate due to me logging quite a few rides to work after)
Rides: 93
Longest Ride: 44 miles

My elevation is not completely correct because I stopped using strava to record as I ride a few weeks back as I stopped enjoying feeling I need to push all the time. The millage is 100% accurate as it is all for work and I know exactly how far it is. Will tick over to 1500 mi tonight, and hopefully 2000 mi this year.

Which brings me on to this:

I honestly don't know how you huge mileage boys do it.

I know that this is very un-pedal powered as an attitude, but I have done 2100 miles or so of riding this year, and after the RideLondon on Sunday, I honestly cannot wait to see the back of the fking bicycle for a bit.

I am so bored to tears it is unreal. I am currently going out because I feel I have to, not because I want to. I am getting fitter and getting quicker, and to be honest at the moment I am struggling to give a st about either!

I am sure I will change my mind after a couple of weeks, but if I had done twice the milage I have done this year (like many on here have) I am pretty sure I would have tried to set light to my bike by now.

Sorry - I needed to get that off my chest.
Switch off strava, switch off your cycle computer, go out and just ride around. It does wonders to be able to just cycle for the enjoyment of cycling, rather than always looking to go faster, harder or better than last time. Get hold of a mountain bike or CX bike and go down a few byways or bridle ways. You will feel much better than just going out and slogging over the same old roads again and again.

This. It gets boring covering the same roads all the time. Find some new routes.

You don't even need to turn Strava (or your phone/GPS) off, to be honest.

Keep recording your data, but just let it run in the background. There's a slack handful of segments that I know the start end finish points of, but they can easily be ignored. I'm still looking at the Garmin during a ride, but concentrating on keeping my cadence high rather than getting wound up about about absolute speed or segment trophies.

The "find new routes" advice is great. Build routes on Strava, or elsewhere, and follow the directions, or go out and head off in an alternative direction to your 'usual' riding area. Or play the "left/right game" which can often end up taking you down unridden local roads, or riding familiar roads in the opposite direction.

A fresh outlook can make all the difference, and cheer you right up.

Oh, and I know it's only a few days since my last update, but right now, these are my numbers for the year...

Distance = 3,719.3 mi
Time = 272h 29m
Elev Gain = 182,575 ft
Rides = 116

Must admit that I ignore the segments part of Strava completely.
I just use it to give running totals for the year and try to ignore it as much as possible whilst riding.

Just over 6150 - should imagine I'll end up with my usual 9-10k miles for the year. Maybe a bit more if I do less on the turbo/weather isn't too bad.

If you have a speed sensor then I suppose so, though obviously its nothing like the same as pending resistance its not hard to whiz along on the turbo at a higher speed than you'd manage outside smile

Boo-yah!

I've just this evening smashed through 4,000 miles for the year! woohoo

Distance = 4,001.6 mi
Time = 293h 24m

3,191.2 miles of that has been done since 13th March this year, on 'ÉLmo', my bright red Trek Émonda SL 6.

biggrin

ETA: My full year average speed of 13.64mph needs some work, though... frown

Distance: 3,143.9 mi
Time: 225h 49m
Elev Gain: 125,335 ft

And it's only gong to tail off when I switch to the trainer and the miles stop counting.
