No, not that sort.

Is it me, or has it been particularly windy this year? I live near the Ridgeway in S. Oxfordshire and there's a slight microclimate here which means there's nearly always a breeze, but this year it's been constant - I don't think I've had a single ride out where there hasn't been a significant headwind at some point in the journey, and the last couple of months it's been really noticeable during the day

the only ride I've had without a headwind was the Dunwich Dynamo a few weeks ago (whioh I was thankful for) although those riding down to London from the East during the previous day had 13 or so knots in their face for the duration.

Try living on the a Wirral the damn place just out into the sea so there is a constant side wind it seems whichever way I go the wind is never behind me. No hills though.

Was just discussing the same thing last night. I can count on one hand the number of nice windless days. I'm convinced its significantly worse than previous years.

I'm not a million miles away in North Swindon and tend to cycle to work in South Swindon. The wind has been awful this year without a doubt.

Wroughton to Marlborough for me, its all roughly the same direction, so if I turn out my road and hit a headwind (as normal) I'm goanna be riding into it most of the way! My heart sinks sometimes! Still it toughens you up a bit, plus one of the key Strava segments near me is even called "Windy Straight"!

Glad it's not just me! Wife has stopped asking me how my rides are, as every time I say something like, fine except for the bloody wind... Live in Bristol so used to a bit of a breeze, but I can't recall any ride this year where I've had less than 12-15mph wind. Most of my ride routes take me north into the Cotswolds, so always into a head wind on the way home just when you don't need it. Looking at the week ahead on BBC weather app now and max of 22mph Monday, not dropping any lower than 12mph for the foreseeable future. Definitely worse than any other year I can recall.

Sorry guys, it's my fault. I've got a sailing boat which has been in storage all year due to lack of time due to young twins... hence why it has been howling all the time. I'll get it out again next year, which will mean there won't be a breath of wind all summer.

yep 100% agree, live in Rutland and virtually every Sunday I've been grinding away into 15-20mph head wind. It definitely wasn't there last year.

So glad it's not just me that thinks that it's exceptionally windy this year!

I think I've had 1 or 2 windless rides here in Peterborough this year, most days feel like 10mph+, some evenings I've seen actual breaking waves along the rowing lake! Although having said that, it looks pretty calm at the moment... just about to leave the house... I'm sure it won't last! frown

There's always a headwind, if you're going fast enough.

Due to logistical issues that I won't bore you with my ride to work is 6 miles south-west, but my ride back is often 25 miles north-east, so most of my cycling is done with a decent tailwind, which is nice. I dont think it's any worse this year though, I hear the same thing every year!

I've noticed this too. Pretty much every day there's a wind and I don't remember the last ride I did where it was actually calm. The weather over the last couple of months has been pretty irratic with the wind direction changing regularly over the course of the day, or even over the course of a ride.

Try commuting between Peterborough and Spalding, that's where the *real* wind hides biggrin

Lucky.. I've had one bumble bee sit on my bibshorts for a while and a wasp decided that it didn't take kindly to being in my mouth and stung my lip.. wee buggers!

You would think that, with a tailwind on 84% of your commute!

Wasp or Bee in the mouth is one of my worst cycling nightmares !! Worst so far has been a large moth, that left a rather grim after taste ! frown

Wasn't it something to do with the gulf stream or similar?

This year has been a lot more windy for sure

I read earlier this year on the BBC website that an El Nino type thing was on it's way:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-3270...

and when you Google 'El Nino', it would appear that things are 'hotting-up' across the pond etc.

See, we're not going mad after all...
