Incidently, it has made me think about what I'm carrying on the SDW run I'm about to do with SixPot. I don't know about earlier iphones and other brands, but on my 6, I've noticed via SMS, if you have your GPS switched on, you can send a GPS fix to someone. Ok that assmues that your mobile has a signal, but still a useful feature.
Any smart-phone from the last 5+ years should be able to do it. It's very useful though - worth figuring out how your particular one works now before you need it in a hurry.

I rode there on Saturday and noticed my new tyres were squeaking on the surface which was not unlike concrete. Cannot have helped the situation crashing on something so hard.

I usually share my location the whole time I'm out on my bike, that way if I'm not actually able to send the location key people still know where I am.

On a similar note, if you haven't already, fill in the emergency contact details/Medical ID within the Health app and make it available from the lock screen, that way if the worst does happen, first aiders etc can see your key details/emergency contact and any key medical data.

Dogbucket, I agree that grip isn't its strong point at Swinley as its like riding on polished marbles, hence my post on needing work, although I suspect that the poor guy just lost it completely, so very sadly.
As for info for incidents, I have made up some small laminated cards, about 4 inches square and have them clipped into all my back packs, road bike saddle bag etc, with next of kin, allergies etc, with the thought of crashing big may destroy my phone, even if its wrapped up in a neoprene sock.

Bump - only posting this here, as there is some cruel irony afoot, but ive never heard of anyone dying on the beloved Jump Gully. But yesterday Crown Estate levelled it, because its "too dangerous". Its gone.
