Probably came last.Cat 3/4 Crit, 35 miles. Longer than I expected.
Very nervous.
Was comfortably in contention for points, in top 10 whole way round. All breakaways got pulled straight back in, very strong pack. It as coming down to a sprint finish, two corners to go prepared myself......on drops and bang, it kicked off. Started hammering it and my calve started cramping up! So just coasted over the line.
26mph for 32 miles, 450ft of climb. No power meter but my friend who was there and came in with the pack averaged 275w.
So, yeah, mini Prems are hard, even if there are several uci teams missing. Seemed to spend half the race alongside Saundersport but neither of us were able to speak much. :-D
Eventually dropped with about 3 laps to go. Legs just stopped turning! Not surprising as I was getting a complete kicking and I haven't raced over 55 miles since last June. Great experience though racing on home roads with loads of support. Even pinned my numbers sat at home on my sofa!

Wrote a bit on how a National B felt for a Neo 3rd cat., some decent photos if nothing else.

I also spent an evening last week getting some road race entries in. No doubt I'll have forgotten half of them by the time they come round. Looking forward to my season proper kicking off though.

First road race of the season in two weeks, then pretty much right through to June/July. Can not wait.

Raced a 3/4 road race last week, which I thought was easy compared to crits and came 8th in the sprint....broke away with a mile to go, held for 1/2 but faded and just went with sprint.
Yesterday raced a cat 4 crit, they had the cat 3 race on at same time.....worked with three others, caught up with the cat 3's one lap to go, and sat in to coast over the line in 2nd.
No more cat 4's, decided I much prefer road racing, so gonna enter some cat 2/3/4's and 3/4's. Need 38 points to go cat 2, it's a big ask, will have to race every week!

I'm afraid I'm letting team PH down.
I was dropped last week on the cat 2/3/4 East Lancs Road Race. I managed to finish the race with a small group of other also rans so bad a placing of 33rd out of 55 starters.
I neither have the legs or the confidence ride in a close, fast group so may stick to TTs and CX racing.

Steve, you have the legs. Have you got TLI's round your neck of the woods? It's ability based road racing, set off at intervals, so you'll be racing in smaller groups from the start. It would be a good confidence builder for you ....then go and smash some 3/4's!!I was dropped last week on the cat 2/3/4 East Lancs Road Race. From grinding up that big hill in North Wales to this in a few years is pretty flippin good Steve, a bunch finish in 2/3/4s indicates its all there, you probably just need the structured training to cope with Race strategy but I know your family and work commitments so that's not going to happen anytime soon!!! Round three of the Nutcracker series, Aske Saw Mills. I'm here on my single speed rigid, and Benji is here on a boring hardtail.
It was so boring I even got bored riding it. You were going well today.Raced in the 3rd of the series I'm racing in which is 3/4's. Wasn't sure about how I'd fare on such a lumpy course with 1000m elevation over the 42 or so miles but I felt pretty good. Due to the elevation we must have lost 15 - 20 riders on the first lap of four x 10 miles (ave speed was 23mph) ... maybe 30 ish finished in the main bunch with just one up the road who we didn't catch.
The finish was an up hill sprint, just up my street but I'd really put too work sprinting up the climbs so my legs were solid so I rolled in somewhere between 15th and 20th. My aim was to ride as hard as I could and leave just enough in reserve ... just misjudged it a little and was spent. Oh well, on to the next one!

Eagle RC? Sounds just like it. If so, we rolled in near each other. It was going to be a tough ask catching the juniors and whippets on that finish. Ben (the one away) got caught with 150m to go. Poor sod. Monster effort though. bumping this thread as i have the feeling i want to do someone more competitive on the bike than chase strava segments, i live in east london, and i cba to join another forum when we have enough lycra clad pistonheaders
how decent do i need to be to do cat 4th?
what licences do i need?
do you just rock up, or should you do some "lessons" ?
i'm not too retarded, i can ride in a group without killing anyone, ftp somewhere around 300 and now a less fat 77kg.
i have no desire to join a cycling club
