I was in that race too, albeit briefly. Sounds like you had a better day than me. Keep at it, you're almost there!

Don't forget HH screws with NP because of the hill. Average is a better measure. I averaged 300 watts for the 15 mins or so I lasted. Compare that to 240 watts for my best result there last year (9th) that's a hell of a jump. I'm finding it much tougher this year despite being fitter, got round all the winter races I did there last year. Ho hum.
Yep, shame it ended the way it did but loads of positives. Good point re NP, very true.

Sounds like you've made great progress regardless of results. You going to try to get to all/most of them this year then? Be interested to hear how you get on if so. Bit of a trek for me but might go again in a few weeks' time - hopefully get some points!!
I had planned to do at least six but the hill isn't treating me well this year! Tempted to try Hillingdon this weekend instead and try my luck there.

I was two points short of 3rd last year before I knocked it on the head so I'd like to get up sooner rather than later. Seems a few others have had the same idea though. 😀

So yeah, nearly won a race. My form has finally come good after a pretty shaky start to the year. Will see if I can finish the job this weekend. If nothing else, finding 4 more points to go up shouldn't be hard. :-)

Entered the Tour of the Mining Valleys this weekend. Anyone else racing?

I haven't raced on the road for around 18 months so it will be interesting.

How was the race ? Was it a bunch kick or break up ? Im tempted to race the next SFA this coming Saturday ... It will be my 1st ever 3rd cat race !! My first licence was 12 years old in the 90's and ive never dropped !

Good work Ponk!

I did a race on Sunday, thought it would be quite easy being a 2/3 - it was and it wasn't in the end, but I thought about it too much ,and from our break, instead of attacking it like I was planning to, I sat in, went to sprint and popped a spoke, I think it was payment for being so indecisive! 4th for me.

See you there hopefully.

It was a bunch gallop from a long way out. We distanced the rest of the bunch which was cool. Nearly split the field with 5 to go but the coordination wasn't there. Strong cross head wind on the finish straight so the pace was pretty comfortable except for the attempted break and the last couple of laps.

I expect the 3rds was a much harder race if they were arttacking each other.

I saw that Jonathan Tiernan-Locke was back racing at the weekend, finished second and is at the Severn Bridge Road Race this weekend. He's obviously been keeping himself in good condition and it will be interesting to see how he does in another E123 field as he is riding with a cat 2 licence. Still not sure what I think of his ban but this isnt the place for that.

All it did for me was highlight that he was never a team sky level rider clean. He was racing around surrey with people with jobs years ago, and now he's doing the same thing. And he couldn't even win at that level - a student beat him...

That there is the nail hit squarely on it's head.

In other racing news, raced the Cannock Winter Classic in the fatbike class came in 9th, which was exactly mid field, pleased enough with that as I'm bunged up and coughing at present, almost didn't go but didn't want to waste the entry.

Booked my first 6 road races of the season, although the first isn't until 10th April. There's a series up here which is 8 races and plan to enter most, although one of the Elite Tour Series support races is on the night after one of those so I'll give one of them a miss (and I'm desperate to win it) so I need to be fresh for that.

I won't know where I am until the first race but I feel stronger than this time last year and I'm around 8 - 9 lbs lighter ... although a year older.smile So we'll see, secretly aiming for my 2nd Cat.

Two weeks before the first round of the Nutcracker Series...

I've spent the winter fell and cross country running, I'm ready for the chance to do some freewheeling.

Congratulations, you'll never be a fourth cat again.

Midweek cyclocross for me under the floodlights at Hull. Probably the last one I can get to due to changing jobs.

First race next week. Cat 3/4 Crit. Have no idea what'll happen, but I won't treat it like a running race......I'll set off as fast as I can to get with the front pack, and see how long I can hold on for.

So far a rear wheel, tyre and rear mech hanger.

I just picked up a brand new bike yesterday and nearly rode it today! Pleased that I didn't. Oh, and a new club jersey, shorts and some skin for my left knee neededbiggrin

Just seen the photos on Strava, that tyre is definitely for the bin. Watching the Flyby, it looked like there were quite a few riders went down.
