Apologies to the OP for joining his thread

Knee update: saw the consultant last week to discuss the MRI scan. There is some minor damage from an old war wound but nothing worth operating on. Nothing floating about and nothing where it shouldn't be. He suggests a steroid injection if required in the future but to keep on with leg exercises and stretching.

I went out for a quick 22 kms on Sunday and the pain returned so I think I will have to increase the float in the cleat and work it out myself. I don't have knee pain on the spin class bike so it must be cleat-related I think. Annoying but something to try.

Do you use a precise setup on the spin bike? Cleat position/float is the obvious first step but it may also be saddle height and position. Can they be eliminated as a possible cause?

As Gruffy says what are the crank lengths in the gym? What are the angles of your legs when the knee is over the pedal etc etc. There will be some small difference somewhere which should resolve the issue.

Maybe there are too many distractions in the gym!

I am just about to switch to Look Keo 4.5 Deg cleats from 6 Deg SPD-SL's, fingers crossed there isn't an issue!

I'm booked in for spin tomorrow so I will take my tape measure and check. There isn't unlimited fine adjustment as the heights and so on are changed with a screw pin into holes drilled into the post.

I have Speedplay pedals so I can adjust a fair bit. I think I might move the saddle forward a bit. Saturday's weather is looking good so plenty of time to have a play.

If the gym position is fine I would photograph the bike from the side and record all the key dimensions. Then try and replicate back at home.

So check axle height of the ground, saddle height above BB/axle or ground, distance from (110mm back of the rear of the saddle) to c/l of bars. These were my Cyfac bike fit dims which are done slightly differently then the other bike fits measurements.

May be worth checking width of bars although I doubt that would effect the knees to much!
