I'm sure a lot of you will have seen this today: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-340519...

Whilst the guy is quite clearly a grade A prat with some serious anger issues, something doesn't sit quite right.

I've watched the first 4 seconds of that video a few times and the guy is clearly edging into the road to cross over once she passes. In fact, he pauses just before she starts speaking to let her pass. Yes, he should be waiting until the crossing says he can go, but everyone crosses when traffic allows without pressing the button - and it allows traffic to keep moving too.

She then says "please don't try and knock me off" (in a mockingly dry tone) to him after he'd paused and she passes. He doesn't look at that point like he's going to do anything of the sort. His comment of "shut up [you mug]" as she rides off can just be heard. At which point we assume she flags him off. And then he goes crazy.

The guy is most in the wrong, of that there is no doubt. But the media coverage of this today seems to be totally ignoring the cyclist's clear success in aggravating the situation. She had no need to speak to him in the first place when he was waiting for her to pass and then she is presumed to swear at him whilst riding off.

Or am I looking at this incorrectly?

It appears from what he says before he pushes her over that after passing him she put either one or two fingers up at him; so whilst being shoved off isn't nice, neither is mocking provocation (her 'Please don't knock me off' comment), and if true, her deliberate provocation of hand/finger gestures.

Idiot meets idiot again?

Pretty grim someone would do this, particularly to a woman

I agree with the sentiment how the rider did entice it a bit. If I see someone walking out or driving out towards me, I put all my effort into avoiding them, not shouting abuse at them or strange comments, sod giving the finger after, what's the point , its not like it will solve anything!

There's another thread on this here. I agree with you though, a loud "Morning" or "Woah" to alert him to her presence if she genuinely thought he hadn't seen her would have sufficed, followed by riding through the nice wide gap and disappearing off to her destination, end of.

Very chivalrous, but I don't think the riders gender is an issue at all. Whether the rider was a man or a woman is/should be irrelevant.

Was this some weird kind of sting, she's got a cam on and seems to have been baiting the ped, how many times has she done this before and been ignored until she finally managed to find someone who snapped.

It's a bit like some of the idiots with car dash cams who seem to drive like prats until they provoke some road rage, which they can then film the result of and portray themselves as the victim.

Seems like she had plenty of room and is either looking to cause an argument or is one of these cyclists who is paranoid about everything. She may have just had a near miss with an idiot that made her jumpy, or similar, and he should not have pushed her off, but she did not help her self.

Seems very much like idiot meets idiot, but of course the normal cycling loons will paint it as "look how danger we are in" and the anti cycling loons will make up some rubbish too.

Why are the police hunting this man, surely the cars behind stopped to help/apprehend him, or am I viewing the world through rural eyes again.

He has handed himself in, obviously wasn't aware of the camera and thought there was little chance of anything happening. Which to be honest, is probably close to the truth.

Thats what I tend to do if someone gets too close, but it has to be mm. Usually woah!! is my preference, but Have been known to swear! wink

However, if I'm still upright then everything is a ok in my book smile

It doesn’t matter what she said to him, he is scum, any man who raises a hand to a woman needs to be castrated. A pathetic cowardly attack.

Totally agree. What she said to him initially was a bit bizarre as he didn't look like he was going to knock her over but regardless, what he did was ridiculous. Smacks of a little wannabe hard man (with the football factory speak) just waiting for that chance to start on someone who more than likely wouldn't fight back. I wonder if he would have acted the same if it was a big bloke cycling past. Coward.

I bet you wouldn't have such a strong reaction if the roles were reversed and the female was the aggressor. There's a lot of white knights out there.

I'm trying to work out if you're serious or just a troll. Either way you are very very wrong. If you're serious are you comfortable hitting woman then?
