S10 I'm a SSer who's also got a London Road. Happy with BB7s (set up right). Built mine from a frameset for £700 with 105 5700, a 23mm intl mtb wheelset, tubeless 38c slicks and mudguards. I love it smile

Got to love the perfect spacing of both mudguards all the way round. Not that I'd expect anything less from Dickie!

I have the Alfine version, it's lovely to ride, if a bit heavy, but shedding a kilo from the hub with the singlespeed version will help with that I'm sure.

If you want to upgrade to hydro discs it's easy to do too, TRP bolt straight on and no shifters to worry about.

I'm a big Genesis fan, and have two of them. The range is confusing though, basically there's full race stuff (Zero, Volare), 'sportive' (Equilibrium, Volant), 'gravel/CX lite' (Croix de Fer, CdA) and then the Day-One which is like the gravel/cross stuff but designed for more urban use and has hub gears or single speed rather than a normal groupset.

I've confused myself now!

That's the one I linked to wink

Sounds perfect for you, but you'll have to be quick to find one. Genesis have discontinued the Day-One for 2016 so you'll have to find somewhere with stock in your size.

I'm so very tempted by the Genesis Day One disc. My only reservation was that I missed having a geared winter bike last year. Decisions decision.

I think I've decided. The Genesis day one disc as a commuting/manky winter bike and maybe use it as a single speed cross bike too. If I want gears on my winter bike I'll just man up and ride the boardman in road spec (or I might sell it and buy a winter trainer)

Sweet. Shiny new bike smile

I'm in a similar position, have a nice carbon bike, nice steel Colnago and a nice steel winter bike with gears but I've just moved and want to move to hacking around on a singlespeed with flats rather than jumping in the car all the time.

Hvae considered a few different options but the Genesis does seem to tick all my boxes.

Here's mine, in full winter commuter trim to help with any decision making. It takes 32c tyres with full guards and room to spare, has proper rack mounts and everything.

I have hub gears as singlespeed would be phenomenally impractical here.

Will be a few days, had to pay a massive vets bill yesterday. Waiting for the insurance to refund it.

Went and had a look at the single speed on Saturday, did not like it at all, but then I saw one of these in a different shop and I really liked. Need to arrange a test ride

Ah yes, I recall that thread now. Local shop has one in a 58. I normally ride a 56 but I might try it. I also asked if they'd fit a standard double which they have agreed they would should I buy it.

Think it might be too small. I'm a 55/56 kind guy.

I have a bit of an issue, I think my dislike of the cross bike on the road is the gearing, so consequently I've been looking for a winter bike with standard gearing, but cannot seem to find anything ion Planet X. Do they sell anything with "proper" gears wink
