I need some new sunnies - my 6-y-o old Nikes have just about had it, the lenses have been replaced three times so I've made them last as best I can.

Having had a quick look round, most sports glasses seem to be quite rigid and have hard plastic on the nosepiece - looks uncomfortable for a few hours riding, or is it? Mine have soft flexible rubber nosepiece, plastic lenses and are quite light.

So what's recommended for riding? Fixed, rather than interchangeable lenses, are fine. Can't wear Oakley, though, just don't fit across the bridge of my nose!

I was also going to suggest Oakleys particularly radarlocks. You do know Oakleys come in all shapes and sizes? My radarlocks came with 2 different sizes of rubber nose piece too.

How about Adidas evil-eye half rims (the name is something along those lines).

I tried a pair alongside Oakleys in vision express and they seemed just as decent - obviously a 30-second test doesn't compare with a day out on a bike though :-)

You could do worse than look at ESS (Eye Safety Systems).

They supply to armed forces and police. Mine are ESS ICE 3, issued to me for an Iraq tour a good number of years ago, and still going strong. Ballistic tested too, to withstand shotgun blast, and even bullets, so ggod protection against bugs and stones. 3 interchangeable lenses (usually, depending on the 'kit' you buy) and rubber nosepiece.

Look at the Crosshair, Crossbow, and ICE models. Some are aimed at smaller faces, but can't remember which...

...I'm a world renowned killer of sunglasses, with many pairs lost or destroyed over the years. But these ESS glasses just seem to go on and on. And compared to the 'fashion brand' glasses, pretty good value, too.

If you want good sunglasses to BS standard at sensible prices, have a wander round a couple of your local builders merchants.

£4, £5, £6 or thereabouts! What's not to like?

Before anybody says anything, it's quality stuff.

Go to Debenhams and try their Bloc range.

I bought a pair years ago in the sale and they're still doing fine now. Plastic so their not heavy and they've withstood all I've thrown at them.

After trashing a pair of gatorz MTB (well the entire lense coating started to come apart)I picked up these from Decathlon - http://www.decathlon.co.uk/portel-cat3-id_8301113....

Seem to fit my face quite well on the road bike on MTB -- https://igcdn-photos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-x... (pardon the selfie :P )

i have the exact same problem with my hooter too, i have a nice pair of white rimmed Oakley half jackets spare polarised lens & 2 different coloured ear socks but i just can't get on with them ,if anyones interested mail me wink

I am currently awaiting delivery of my third pair of Rudy Project sunnies which fit me perfectly as you can adjust the nose pads as well as the arms , you can also get prescription clip ons with these. i wouldn't buy any other brand now.

Also have a cheap pair from Decathlon with interchangeable lenses. Comfy and do an excellent job of keeping the sun, insects, and any other cr*p out of my eyes.

Thanks for that lot - I'll have a look at Adidas and Rudy. Went into a Nike shop to see if I could just get the same again, but no. And their current range seem to only suit those with a more petite shnozz than mine!

Sunwise have quite a good range of cycling glasses. I'm not sure where you can try them on though as I just picked some from the site. Quality is good and the extra lenses have been useful throughout the year.

+1
I've been wearing Bolle safety glasses for the past few years of daily commuting. They're pretty good, cheap and it's not the end of the world if you lose a pair. As I may have done. Occasionally.

I have these -EES Ice- great for riding- lens tints are perfect. Simple and well made.

I wear Maui Jim as general sunglasses and appreciate good eyewear. I don't see the value in Oakleys for rding.

EES every time.
