Now the weather is turning a bit miserable (he says on a gloriously sunny morning) I'll be doing longer endurance rides on the TT....I did a 150min ride on Friday morning as I was off work and it was raining quite a lot, by the time I finished it was dry so topped it off with another 50mins outside.....I set a few episodes of top gear going to pass the time but was wondering what others watch?

When doing harder sessions with tough intervals I'm more than happy with just some music, but for the longer endurance rides it was actually quite nice to watch something. Top gear was good because it's very light watching and you don't need to focus much; I couldn't watch a few episodes of a TV series where you have to pay close attention to get the story, for example.

Thoughts?

I fought my way through most of the Babylon 5 box set, but this winter my turbo time should be more about intervals and I don't expect I'll be watching much besides the plots on Trainerroad.

Last winter I watched previous years' Grand Tours, one stage at a time, on a big monitor whilst following the TrainerRoad profile on a laptop.

If it was a 60 or 90 mins session I watched the highlight version. If it was a 3 hour session I put on the full version.

They helped, but nothing can fully alleviate the tedium of a 3 hour turbo session!

3 hour turbo session?! I think I'd rather do 6 hours in the rain and wind ....

I came to that conclusion too smile

Still, its easier not to fall off a turbo when it's icy out.

Race re-runs from Youtube - try Cyclinghub.

Gent-Wevelgem 2015 is particularly good, watching the insane crosswinds and rainstorms blowing the peloton across the road adds a bit of encouragement when on the trainer.

Yep I always resort to old races. Classics are good for that.

Thanks for the tips guys. I reckon getting some old races up on the screen with some music in my ears will be a good thing to try smile

Sufferfest for actual training.

Decent action movies for base miles. Not worth watching anything with complex plot or dialogue, IME. Noise-cancelling headphones help.

Boxed sets of the West Wing and BSG have seen me through some pretty long turbo sessions (longest was just over 6 hours). Get headphones (ideally in-ear one as they cause less sweating) to drill the soundtrack into your head. Trying to compete with the noise of the turbo won't work.

I've found these better than any of the Tour highlights, the Tour live stages, rugby, films, or music. I think it is because a 30-45 minute episode of something generally moves at a reasonable tempo with little "down time". All of the other stuff I've tried tends to drag in places. And that's not good.

I favour a live music DVD. My choice would be iron maiden or metallica but thats subjective.....
