Hahaha, wait til you are grovelling your way up Kesselchen and Hohe Acht in the rain at 3am. 17% is steep enough at the best of times!
Ah, but it's not 17% for very long, is it? (is it?)

Failing that, there's always the e-bike category....

How steep is the top bit of druids?
According to my trace from The 6, also 17%.

Not sure I necessarily believe that though. It wasn't that tough.

Take heart that we'll only be doing Hohe Acht about 6 times each, not 46 times like Druids smile

There's actually a short cut, built way back when, especially for climbing trials. The circuit sweeps a longer, less steep way round and the climbing stretch goes straight up. I wonder if they'll be using that for the hill climb test?

Can't find a picture of it, the trees obscure it from Satellite view and no Street View in Germany, so I knocked this up to show where it is.

I did some quick Googling and apparently it's 450m long and goes up to 27%! No idea if it is still extant, or overgrown and unusable.

Would love to do this, just looking into logisitcs now.

IDeally would drive myself there with bike in back so could get a touristfahren in too........
Excellent plan. thumbup You wouldn't be the only one planning a Touristfahrt or two before coming back.

Only have 2015's timetable to go by, but they were running sessions both after the race finished on the Sunday and also on the Monday (and Tues, Weds...)

Some are thinking of getting a couple of laps in Sunday night before heading off, others of us thinking we'll need a rest first and will be staying an extra night to drive it on Monday. If staying the extra night we'll most likely have to relocate from our trackside camp, but there are plenty of options nearby.

Hang on... watching those videos, some of these outfits have some serious kit trackside!

I have a Colemans event shelter if needed but I thought we were just bringing a bike, a chair and a sleeping bag, any idea what comes with the 'parcel' or is it just a camping plot?

Also, what's the deal with spectators coming along? I may know a couple of lazy beggars who would just want to come, watch and do the touristfart afterwards. Tried working it out but the website is a bit mental (well done sixpot for figuring that lot out!), I'm guessing there must be some kind of non-riders entrance fee?
Nothing comes with the parcel. It's just a measured out plot of land that may have a power outlet nearby. CoolC has salvaged three old, unwanted awnings from somewhere, and hopes to be able to fashion one good one out of the bits. I have confidence he will succeed. He is da man. Nearer the time we'll work out a garage inventory, and work out who has what to bring. No point all bringing workstands, for example. Then as you list but also bring or arrange to share a tent. Maybe a camping stove, but again we won't need one each. The Colemans could be useful though, I think CoolC is our de facto pit boss so I'll pass that offer to him smile

Website is a bit easier for me as I've lived/worked in Germany before. It was a whiles ago now, but it helps having been previously exposed to Teutonic ways of expressing and organising things. I've seen no mention of entry fees for spectators, but haven't really looked either. When I'm home later I'll see if there's anything anywhere. Otherwise I'd tell them to just rock up.

Let's start a waiting list (because PH) of those wanting to join the next team

1. pembo's +1
2.
3.
4.

I've been enjoying reading about the event, and would love to get involved, but with the best will in the world, the missus isn't going to sign it off for 2016. 2017 maybe...
That's a shame. We'd been hoping you would take our bait!

louiebaby said:
WRT getting a bit of kip at night, perhaps one person missing one cycle per cycle would be a nice way to get a longer rest, by rider number, the sequence would be:

Normal:
1, 2, 3, 4

Night:
2, 3, 4
1, 3, 4
1, 2, 4
1, 2, 3

Back to Normal:
1, 2, 3, 4

That way, each person gets a rest of 6 laps, rather than the normal 3, but no one has to do double duty. It should be faster.
So compared to single stinting we'd swap

4 x 3 lap rests

for:

1 x 3 lap rest + 3 x 2 lap rest + 1 x 6 lap rest.

Sounds like an excellent idea. thumbup

Only downside I can see is if we start the night rota at 22:00, rider A has his 6 hour sleep break 18:00-01:00 and rider D has his 07:00-12:00

louiebaby said:
Also, with the laps being so long, how do they work out a winner? Surely there will be quite a few teams who complete the winning number of laps. Is it the earliest time that that number is completed?
Imagine so. I don't know about Rad, but at R24/The6 it was who completed the winning number of laps the earliest. What you did after the clock timed out didn't count, so if two of you did 180 laps but you finished your 180th lap with 00:06:00 to go and your adversary completed his with 00:05:59 to go you beat him. Assuming he didn't sprint off and get round in time to complete a 181st lap before the timer reached 00:00:00, that is.

Sort of. Rider A in your example would start his break at 19:00 though, after finishing his 18:00 stint. (1 hour laps is a bit relaxed isn't it? Strava lap record for a lass is 47 mins, so maybe plug 45 mins per lap into your sheet. wink
Ah, yes, I may have made an error in reading my own spreadsheet paperbag

47 minutes for a girlie, true, but she was probably a super-fit 5% body fat E/1 racing snake of a girl. The slowest time on the Strava segment is over 4 hours. Median time is 1 hour, which given the profile I expect will be about right when we're all a bit tired. Ok, 55 minutes. smile

I will go in a smaller team if it's needed.

I don't know the deal with registering teams with 2,3 or 4 members and then changing it up but I'm sure SPB knows all about it.

Surely we can whip up some more interest when people come out of hibernation.
You're a top bloke, pembo! I'm hoping we'll get some more yet but it's good to know we've got options in arranging the teams so everyone can come who wants to if not.

WRT changing team sizes, there's no online facility to do that but I expect it could be arranged by email. The prices are different for the different team sizes, but asking nicely and paying the additional plus an admin fee would probably work. Certainly there is provision to cancel and receive a refund, less an admin fee, so changes could be made by cancelling and rebooking if need be.

The prices go up 10% at the end of January:

Disciplines/Team Size until 31/01/2016 until 06/07/2016 Late Entry Fee
24h road bike: team of 8 €770,00 €825,00 €80,00
24h road bike: team of 4 €400,00 €440,00 €50,00
24h road bike: team of 2 €220,00 €250,00 €30,00
24h road bike: indivudual rider €110,00 €130,00 €20,00

So I'm thinking we set ourselves a deadline of mid Jan to get additional full teams. We'll register the third team when we get enough if it's before then, but if not we'll register what we have before the price rise. What do people think about waiting until mid-Jan before registering a 2-man? Seek and pembo, especially.

Thanks for sorting out a decent overview.

Fine with me
Just as an addendum, there's no 3-man team option but if we end up with only three then we could register a 4-man and run it a man short. Provided the extra cost was acceptable, of course.

And, as an aside, will you be travelling from Sweden? If so I won't bore you with which tunnel crossing we're getting etc.

We quickly stole that idea! There were some seriously fast guys doing full speed reply style baton/bidon changes. We still managed to faff the changes though! We would phone/text ahead from the Bilstein bridge on the Dottinger Hohe so the next rider had time to get ready.

I remember last year I saw a guy dressed head to toe in Team Sky gear on a Dogma. I thought it was a full team kit wan... Said rider flew past me in the big ring up Kesselchen. It was Christian Knees of Team Sky. He was there this year too with some Giant Alpacin and IAM Cycling riders.
Excellent, PH takes on the pros!

Did they have the live tracking web page when you were there? I was thinking we could use that to follow our riders round and be ready for when they came in.

You could always use Find Friends on iPhone, or similar live tracking for Android.
I've used apps like that for long rides, and they work well, but I was under the false impression RaR had something that tracked via the event transponder, rather than an app that requiring everyone to carry their phones round.

On investigation though it seems the official tracking website is just a smartphone driven app afterall http://www.radamring.de/en/service-en/live-trackin....

Shame, but not the end of the world.
