PH does Rad Am Ring 2016 - 24 hour race at the Nurburgring
Discussion
Hang on... watching those videos, some of these outfits have some serious kit trackside!
I have a Colemans event shelter if needed but I thought we were just bringing a bike, a chair and a sleeping bag, any idea what comes with the 'parcel' or is it just a camping plot?
Also, what's the deal with spectators coming along? I may know a couple of lazy beggars who would just want to come, watch and do the touristfart afterwards. Tried working it out but the website is a bit mental (well done sixpot for figuring that lot out!), I'm guessing there must be some kind of non-riders entrance fee?

Nothing comes with the parcel. It's just a measured out plot of land that may have a power outlet nearby. CoolC has salvaged three old, unwanted awnings from somewhere, and hopes to be able to fashion one good one out of the bits. I have confidence he will succeed. He is da man. Nearer the time we'll work out a garage inventory, and work out who has what to bring. No point all bringing workstands, for example. Then as you list but also bring or arrange to share a tent. Maybe a camping stove, but again we won't need one each. The Colemans could be useful though, I think CoolC is our de facto pit boss so I'll pass that offer to him I have a Colemans event shelter if needed but I thought we were just bringing a bike, a chair and a sleeping bag, any idea what comes with the 'parcel' or is it just a camping plot?

Website is a bit easier for me as I've lived/worked in Germany before. It was a whiles ago now, but it helps having been previously exposed to Teutonic ways of expressing and organising things. I've seen no mention of entry fees for spectators, but haven't really looked either. When I'm home later I'll see if there's anything anywhere. Otherwise I'd tell them to just rock up.
The parcel is pretty big. 3.5 x 12 metres, and as we have two adjoining plots we'll have a 7 x 12m plot.
Those Coleman event shelters are nice and to be fair, any additional cover should we have rain would be appreciated. The canopy(s) I have are approx 2.5 x 5m (enough to get a large car under) which will hardly scratch the surface of available space, so I'd say bring it along.
Of course there is plenty of time yet for sorting parcel logistics, but be assured graph paper and cut out blocks will be used to determine the "best" layout
We do need to think about making our plot easily spotted for rider swap overs, I'm thinking flashing lights, union flags and hopefully the loan of a PH flag/banner or two (attention mods, who do we need to ask?)

Coming from The Sandpit? Fly into Cologne/Bonn if you can, Frankfurt am Main if you can't. Hire a crew cab Vito and you're sorted.
We'll be on D-087 and D-088. If you guys do enter be sure to come and say hello
Yep we would be coming in from the sandpit so thanks for the info. Given the elevation changes it looks like a few laps of the Seychelles will be good practice.........We'll be on D-087 and D-088. If you guys do enter be sure to come and say hello
I get the feeling entering the event will be discussed during my next ride with the group week on Saturday.

If there is potential for a third team +1Ben has said that he would like to join, I don't think he is quite crazy enough to enter as a solo!
Let's start a waiting list (because PH) of those wanting to join the next team1. pembo's +1

Same as last year, double stint at night gives approx 6 hours continuous rest rather than 3, so a chance to grab some half decent kip.
I've been enjoying reading about the event, and would love to get involved, but with the best will in the world, the missus isn't going to sign it off for 2016. 2017 maybe...WRT getting a bit of kip at night, perhaps one person missing one cycle per cycle would be a nice way to get a longer rest, by rider number, the sequence would be:
Normal:
1, 2, 3, 4
Night:
2, 3, 4
1, 3, 4
1, 2, 4
1, 2, 3
Back to Normal:
1, 2, 3, 4
That way, each person gets a rest of 6 laps, rather than the normal 3, but no one has to do double duty. It should be faster.
Also, with the laps being so long, how do they work out a winner? Surely there will be quite a few teams who complete the winning number of laps. Is it the earliest time that that number is completed?
That makes perfect sense! Staying up for a couple of stints at night and then knowing you will get a decent nap time would be great. It would, however, involve us all remembering what's going on through the night when tired. We would have to make a tick off rota to keep everyone up to date.
Now Louiebaby, you know you have to work on her a little more to get a pass now don't you? You could do as I did... 'Look they nearly have a team, they just need one more to be able to do it, I can't let them down.... can I?'

As pablo will happily attest, one of my main strengths is as a windbreak for others to sit behind. Are the two teams allowed to work together?Cost implications may not work for next year, as we have just decided she is going to be a stay-at-home-Mum for the foreseeable future. I have already negotiated a small increase to my "pocket money" to offset her guilt of not contributing, but I fear this may be too much too soon, hence the suggestion of 2017.
I'm playing the long game. Also, if the option is come to Germany with you lot, or chuck an extra £500 in the new bike fund, (desperately needed,) then I'm not going to break out the lederhosen.
