Faultless so far, with a 500 and a Forerunner 110. Only problem I've had is I lost a HRM strap after the 3PX Cyclocross somewhere between the finish line and the shower block.

I've had my 800 for 4 odd years with no issues. Goes out in all weathers, cold and hot and never had an issue.

Edited due to missing words out.

810, ever since the latest update 4.30 it has not been overly reliable, refused to sync today and could not even find the ride on it, even though it was showing in the last ride bit, hopefully a full reset has sorted it.
Garmin connect has been down for most of the day, so that might explain your sync issues.

I've a 800 and 810. Only once that I can remember has any of them gave me any issue during a ride, where the 810 froze. A restart fixed it easily enough. The 800 did get water into the connector once but that was my digit dyslexia rather than a Garmin fault.

I have a few Garmin devices and largely all the current stuff works well. Certainly happy so far with my Edge 1000. That said either the Edge 1000 or my Vector 2S power meter decided to be a tt last time and wouldn't calibrate for 20 minutes. The one and only problem I've had though.

Own two 500's, they are brilliant, was gutted the other week when I managed to have an accident and put a rock straight through the screen, but the little trooper carried on recording the ride, downloaded it to my Mac when I got home fine as well, spoke to Garmin who replaced it for a small fee even though it was three years old.

I bought an Edge 500 second-hand off Ebay in 2013.

It's been pretty damned good so far. I had a tantrum a couple of weeks ago about it losing a ride, but I suspect that it had more to do with my PC playing up and me not hitting "reset" to save the ride before connecting it to the PC.

Previously, it has lost satellite connection a few times, but that's not a problem with the unit. On one occasion I did have to turn it off to get it to re-find the satellites though.

Not bad for a pre-owned tech device that has also been in a crash with a van, which was enough to write off a frame and brake my shoulder blade. I'm very happy with mine right now, and would not hesitate to recommend one to a friend.

Edge 200 - 1st GPS and was great - never had any problems
Edge 500 - picked up for a steal and was faultless till i dropped it - managed to fix it myself though
Edge Touring - great again - only once borked a course id uploaded.
Edge 25 good basic GPS - improved from the 200 - no problems but not used much
Edge 520 - like that you can overlay courses on open street maps if you install them but havnt been able to get turn by turn working consistently yet without using coursepoints.
Edge 1000 - absolutely brilliant straight out of the box - faultless and the one I would recommend without hesitation.

Mio 505 - pretty good - no issues but not covered much mileage with it

Polar V650 - good but couldnt get it to update firmware

I think I took n+1 a bit too far !

My 510 has never put a foot wrong. My wife's 810 have been a right pain in the arse - because of firmware updates. I've never updated the 510

Garmin can never seem to sort out their software. Whether its the firmware on their kit or the apps on your phone. It never seems to be properly tested

810 has been partially sorted by downgrading the firmware a few versions to pretty much the same as when we bought it - it now will follow a course without crashing every 15 miles or so. Still won't upload/download to my wife's iPhone though as they screwed up the app a couple of versions back and still haven't been able to sort it despite it being a couple of months ago.

Edge 800 - faultless
910xt - first one glitchy, replacement faultless (on garmin)
fenix 3 - brilliant/faultless
vectors - Mostly great, but failed completely on a few occasions - missed the 'awful' firmware update. Support incredible so far; entire set replaced twice, and an 'upgrade' to vector 2 on its way after the 3.81 firmware bricked them. Downside, obviously I've had a few issues with them.

General principle with technology, never buy the .0 version of anything. There's a hell of a lot of moving parts in the software of these things, and exposure to users always throws up stuff that even the most twisted testers don't think up..

Got an Edge 200 and aside from a couple of minor issues it's fine. I seem to have more problems with Garmin connect though.

Garmin 500 - the unit itself is reliable, I just find the support software and other accessories(sensors) to be a tad shcensoredte

I now have the new style magnet-less cadence and speed sensors - sometimes the speed sensor is not picked up by the Garmin - I only realise when it continues to read a speed of 8Mph+ for about 20 seconds after I have stopped at traffic lights...

Edge 510 for 2.5 years and have experienced:

Randomly switching itself off mid ride
Failed to save a rides
Fails to connect to iPhone via BT - Needs a few attempts - could be iPhone Garmin app or Garmin 510 firmware?
Went through a phase where it would autopause/autostart which seemed like every 2 minutes no matter what speed I was travelling at, although seems to have fixed itself
Recorded elevation calcs has been all over

When you're used to the intuitive nature of an iPhone, I find Garmin devices a big let down ... they're very clunky.

I've had an Edge 800 now for over 3 years.

I've had one screwed up ride, (Dartmoor Classic, c106 miles, where it seemed to lose Satellite for the last quarter.) This was bloody annoying, but my timing chip still worked so I still got my medal!

I've also had a few issues uploading to Strava, but now just do it by file directly from the unit, and it this seems to be a very reliable way to do it.

I have a 510, owned for 2 years this Christmas. It does random things like switching off or deciding not to give me advance warning of turns.
This!

Had a Edge 500 for 2 years, faultless.

Decided to upgrade to 510 - better unit with better features BUT in the 6 months I've had it, it has randomly switched itself off on about 7/8 rides.

Have had the unit replaced but even the replaced unit has done the same thing.

I think there is a software bug with the LiveTrack option; if you connect and start LiveTrack without having ALL your satellites in sync, it will most likely turn off.

Really annoying as it would switch off without warning and always did it when I was around 33 mins into the ride. Worst part is the data is lost so you can't retrieve the data and fix the file!

500 here, the battery constantly reads 100%, it can be fixed by letting it run down until it turns off, then re-charging but the fault comes back again after a couple of weeks.

A couple of times it has lost signal mid-ride too but that's only a very occasional occurrence and nowhere near as annoying as the battery.

Not sure I'd buy another Garmin, as they fobbed me off with the battery problem, then when it re-occurred the warranty had run out so they weren't interested.

Never had any issues with my Edge 500, very unlikely to upgrade either given the problems mentioned

Never had a single problem with a 510, changed that for an 810 as I wanted mapping. First ride with the unit was the cavendish riseabove sportive and the unit froze mid ride. Managed to get it restarted while riding and had to start a new ride on it. Luckily a friend stitched the 2 files together and I only lost a couple of miles.

That was on 3.6 firmware, it's been pretty reliable so far on the last 2 updates, occasionally I have issues syncing with my iPhone/ garmin connect via Bluetooth but as it's usually down to 50% charge I just plug it into my Mac now via USB to charge and upload.

Looking at getting a Virb xe soon, so I'll see how that plays with the edge smile

Ive been using my 810 for just over a year and its been mostly reliable. I've had it reset a few times on rides, but considering it boots up tracking the activity still I'm okay(ish) with that. Its been a lot more unstable since the live segments release a few months ago and I've lost several rides when the unit has been paused. Overall, I am happy with it, but if they could iron out the occasional data loss I'd say it was perfect.
