I'm currently building a house and my dream man-cave, and I need to include bike storage. It's for me and the missus and what with N+1 and all that, we need to store 8 bikes. Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent, good value, wall mounted hook? This one seems OK at sub £10...

Also, is there any issue with hanging bikes with suspension forks vertically? My mate reckons a vertical hook might have knackered his forks (Recon Air) but I've never heard of this before.

Any views?

I hang all of our bikes from those 8 quid blue hooks for Halfords, including my Whyte 901 with a Recon Air. Must be 4 years now. No negatives although I did have to bleed one set of hydraulic brakes once after air inside the system got into the hose. Just highlighted a problem that needed sorting rather than causing a problem.

I've just ordered these - look pretty good at less than £2 each. Should arrive this week.

Hang it by the rear wheel therefore little weight or stress on the front forks.

I made my own brackets but are almost a copy of the above, and I hang one bike by the front wheel then the next by the rear then the next by the front wheel and so on too reduce the handlebars clashing and requires less space.

Lock out the fork if it concerns you.

Crikey - I was going to weld something up, but at that price why bother? If your bike has mudguards the rear one will be on the floor unless the bike is hung by the rear wheel!, or I guess an 'upstand' which the rear tyre can rest on without the mudguard touching the floor.

On further examination they are coming from London UK Honk Kong - not such a good buy if Royal Mail ad duty on behalf of C&E

We bought one of these;

Works brilliantly for the money.

Deep section rims may not fit in the off the shelf type.

those BBB ones are really good, we use them at the shop and hang 40lb + bikes off them with no issue at all.

No, it won't hurt your suspension forks.

I use the decathlon hooks with the rubber covering the metal. Seem to be fine for my 4 bikes!

Great, just what I wanted to hear. I'll order some.

The only thing I would mention, is that hydraulic disk brake systems don't really enjoy being stored upside down (especially if they are not very well bled!) My current Shimano setup takes a while for the air to get from the caliper back into the lever if it gets turned upside down at all, and we used to store our bikes upside down in the loft (through the loft hatch!) and the seals in my avid levers failed after a while. So if you can store the mountain bikes bars up, and the road bikes bars down, you should be fine!

I used the <£2 rubber coated hooks from Toolstation. Min 400mm between them.

This is how my garage should look but the security requirements of my insurer means the bikes have to stack side by side to reach the chain and ground anchor that secures them.

I store mine like this hooking the seat over the roof beams.

That previous post looks remarkably similar to my setup!
7 replica and 6 bikes smile
Managed to cram all mine into a single garage though...

Hehe, there's another two on the floor and a moped in there too, plus a two seat kayak! I did build the Tiger in a single garage though.

I've got the Ebay generics and they work fine. Those BBB ones look much better quality, though I doubt it makes much difference once the bike is actually hung.

I hadn't considered mounting the bikes pointing down, but I did stagger them a bit so that I could reduce the pitch and fit more bike into the same space without the handlebars touching.
