James there any sponsorship requirements for the place?
I believe 750 is the target although it is one where you can continue fundraising after the event itself.

One of my early season rides was to be the Uber200. As of a few days ago, the event has been cancelled. Still, they sent the gps....it'd be rude not to ride it anyway smile

Had a great time, met YellowJack and his new machine, don't think I convinced him to take the gears off it, but I did try.

Rode my mtb in the night race, and cross bike in the main race. Spinning up the beach on 34x17 on file treads, whilst trying to hold onto wheels of people smashing bigger and bigger gears was great fun. If you want a totally different race experience that is one to recommend, it's completely loony, but great all at the same time.

Ouch! 182/195 in the Veteran Male category. I gave it all, and got nowhere. frown

You still beat all those who didn't enter, because they didn't want to be near the back, for there to be 1 winner there had to be 194 losers, and that is a club we are both members of. As long as you enjoyed it, job jobbed.

Result for me was 108/195 in Veteran Male and 9th Singlespeed veteran.

Well done old boy - you cant win every time, you did well. I saw on Strava that you were out of action for 12 mins fixing a broken chain, so thats gotta be worth a fair few places.

Congrats to you too Benji - but then i expect good things of you in every race!

Tour of Flanders next for me. the 250km distance. Going to be a long day in the saddle! The pro's do it in around 6 hours, so i'm looking at a 9 hour day i think.

Surprisingly, when I looked at the times and did the mental maths to adjust for what I lost with the repair, it only accounted for 10 places or thereabouts down that end of the field. Then factor in the fact that I had chance to get my breath back and recover for lap 2 and it begins to look like just a handful of places lost.

But like Benji says, the overall result is just a small part of the whole experience. I massively enjoyed the whole weekend, I got to meet Benji at long last (and what a nice chap he is), and had a chance to ride in the country park that was our local beach destination when I was growing up. My Great Grandmother even worked on the site when it was a munitions factory during WW2, so I feel pretty well connected to the place, now even more so.

Add to that the fact that I surprised myself (in a good way, too!) with my reaction to the chain problem, and it was an overwhelmingly positive weekend. The organisation was top notch, and I'd happily go back I think. But no rush to decide, as entries for the 2017 event don't open for another 284 days!! I'm so glad I entered this, and turned up to start, and finish the race. The Battle in the Dark on Saturday night was just a bonus really, and great fun too.

Today was ClifCross day, 42 miles up and down the Pennines around Hebden Bridge, most of it off-road, and 6,700 feet of climbing. I'm shattered.

This is my fourth year, I know the way now, although somebody nicked the last sign on the new bit, so there was a little detour, but we are used to such things now.
