1 mile commute - recommendations
Discussion
If everything goes to plan, in about 6 months my daily commute will be reduced to 1 mile each way, almost all of it on either residential streets or segregated cyclepaths.
So I'd like to ditch the lycra and strava times and just have a leisurely ride into work and back. Normal work wear is a suit.
Any recommendations for a city commuter? Probably with a chain cover, disc or hub brakes and the ability to fit full mudguards and a rack.

I'd get onto ebay and look for old steel racers, like these...

Other makes of old racers are available...

I do a one mile commute on a BMX, but use the car when it's raining. but I'm a jeans and trainers wearer, if I was looking for something to ride suited up, all weathers I'd be ordering one of these....

Decathlon are good for euro-style practical bikes (guards, racks, dynamo lights, etc) at sensible money - http://www.decathlon.co.uk/C-376961-city-and-commu...
But yes, for a mile I'd probably just walk.

I have a 4k commute and use a singlespeed steel Voodoo for most of the year, but also have a DMR Wrath 24 street/park/DJ bike that occasionally gets used in the nicer weather when I don't need lights. Great fun boosting off kerbs and manualling everything in sight.. Not being able to sit and pedal is tougher than you think too!
