Canyon Commuter ticks all your boxes, but is it really going to be quicker than walking when you factor in getting changed, wheeling your bike out, locking it up, fixing punctures, washing the bike, maintenance etc?
Get a town bike designed for the job and all the hassle goes out the window. No need to change clothes, minimal maintenance, unlikely to be stolen. Turns a 20 minute walk into a 5 minute cycle and makes a big difference. My old one was £100 brand new from Decathlon and for that particular job, it was unbeatable.
Well the answer came from an unexpected source. Turned out one of the guys from work was at N+1=S-1, so we did a deal on a 2005 Specialized Allez Elite for a ton.
The ride to work and back is over pretty quick, but never fast enough to break sweat, so I ride in a suit. Guess I look like a tt, but I don't care.
Done just over 70 miles on it so far. It'll need new tyres soon, but otherwise it's pretty much perfect.

My car on cold start would probably do 10 mpg if I drove and queue in traffic means the bike is quicker for me. I would rather have 5 mins in the rain, than 15 walking. Also I ride home for lunch and walk the dog, so riding 4 miles a day is the way to go. Oh and I still havent cleaned it, which was due at Christmas.......

Any bike made in the last 100 years would be suitable for a 1 mile commute. Funny question to ask !
This! Buy an Edwardian upright single speed, with rod brakes and a chain bath, and waft to work in a three-piece suit, while smoking a pipe and timing your commute on a Full Hunter pocket watch......then post a Youtube video, so we can see the reaction of your fellow commuters!
When I was at Uni I regularly used to see a guy (in a suit and carrying a briefcase) commuting to work on a long board. Granted, its not a bike but as an impressionable 20 year old student I thought he was perhaps the coolest person on the planet. He also used to fly past at a hell of a pace. (probably a decent workout too!)
