Black done, bit of a weird one tonight....

Forgot my pre-ride banana, so by 20 mins in, my sugar levels dropped and my legs started to feel heavy and lifeless.

Fortunately my daughter brought me banana and after 5 mins I was on the road to recovery.....
Probably more psychological..... Unless you've been doing loads of exercise, you would have enough carbs stored away for 20 mins of exercise.... Especially when you consider black is quite gentle..... And then a banana isn't absorbed in 5mins either. Although having sugar in the mouth does cause a release of glycogen/sugars from the liver before what you've eaten has been digested.

Either way, glad you felt better after. We all get days like that..... It's rubbish when you feel that way.

My legs are feeling a bit tired, but not too bad. Most of the Angliru climb I did earlier was 40mins and my average cadence was just 61rpm. I typically spin 90-95 when left to my own devices!

Legs.....utterly broken. Did "a very dark place" today....had to reduce the intensity a bit and the sprint efforts at the end of some of the intervals were just too much for me today. I wanted a few more TSS, was torn between some anaerobic or sweetspot so went for "joe devel 45"....but after just 2-3 reps I realised "ah....this isn't going to work" hehe so quit and went and did "mount field".

I don't think I had fully recovered from Monday so overall not a bad workout. Despite reducing the intensity 37mins of a very dark place had an intensity factor of 1....so it certainly wasn't easy.

Did that one last week, was really horrible, first 3.5 miles were 11% avg, not really where you want a 39 inner ring...

Tried to quote and it all went wrong ha.

Ha, nah, pretty terrible for me tbh, too steep. I've done 300w for 3 hours a fair few times.

Haha, no. I've done quite a few road races where that has been the average, NP well into mid 300's for circa 3 hours. My NP for LBL was 280w for nearly 10 hours :O - took some recovery that.

You guys all doing it on the turbo makes it harder for sure mind you! I tried to motivate myself for a max 5 min effort on the turbo the other day but couldn't hack it beyond 4 mins - 480W for 4, but it is so much harder indoors, I think when you all get outside after winter you'll notice the gains and then some, for sure!

Last summer, after doing a decent amount of TT sessions through the winter, I was MUCH faster than the year before. Absolutely no doubt in my mind the TT helped an awful lot. I was about 1.5+mph faster on most of my rides without really putting in any real effort.

Good to read that, finally got round to doing Palisade tonight, tough but manageable. Last three sessions of this block look a bit easy, FTP test next week I think.

I wanted to do some endurance work tonight, so decided to do Mountfield and try the middle interval at 100% FTP for 12 mins.

Interval 1 was a steady climb at c75 rpm.

No issues with energy levels tonight either...

Quite enjoyed it after a day in the car :-)

I think after doing that tough "climb" on Monday, and absolutely dying doing A Very Dark Place on Wednesday, I won't do a hard session tomorrow....I'm thinking of doing one where usually it's 30secs 150% then 19:30 of sweetspot, 3 reps....I may edit it to make them 20secs of 150% and the rest sweetspot. Don't want too high a TSS so whenever I hit somewhere around 90-95TSS I'll just stop the workout and do a warm down.

Another episode of Black tonight without any of the issues encountered earlier in the week.

I had a couple of "drop outs" tonight where the app stopped for no reason.... I'm thinking the battery in my speed / cadence sensor may need replacing?

I also gave my "cave" a small upgrade.....a mat to hide the head unit cable and to try and reduce "vibration" related noise when running in a higher gear at higher speeds...

Undecided on whether to do an indoors or outdoors ride tomorrow. Forecast says it should be dry, but it's really bloody freezing, grey, and just not very pleasant.

Indoor wins for me. Went out last weekend for pootle on Sunday - haven't been able to breathe clearly enough for long enough to get back on bike since frown

I was toying with a 50 miler tomorrow as a warm up for the Mad March Hare on the 5th March.

Based on today's weather I will be doing Palisade that I missed out last weekend instead....
