Are you me?
Same routine regarding "variable cooling"
I'm on a Tacx Flow, non e-trainer type...
Just compared our stats, I can confirm that I'm not you.... Same routine regarding "variable cooling"
I'm on a Tacx Flow, non e-trainer type...

Well let's face it, my FTP is so low, it can only improve, I know it, you know it...hence I'm trying to improve it! :-)
Just kidding, it never gets easier, we just get faster.... I think it's great we've got a Pedal Powered group, I think it's a great motivator for us all. Right, best I go and do my FTP test, i've been putting it off all day!!
Well that was fun!! I've increased by a huge amount, in fact it's so much that I'm now doubting whether my last test could have been better. The last one was 272 and todays was 300. LTHR from 155 to 151 too.
Comparing the two side by side, I have increased everything by quite a huge margin. So I'm pretty sure the last one was low due to the fact I did a 90 min session the day before it. I know you shouldn't pay attention to HR, but I was pretty much at my max at the end like I was today, so I'm pretty sure I didn't have any more to give last time too. I should also say that I really paid attention to what I ate today and I was as relaxed and rested as I could be for todays pain by turbo session...
I guess I should look at the brightside, my training is just about to get a whole lot harder......

-1 in the garage doubt that explains RH Di2 shifter suddenly not shifting down the cassette with me stopping it going all the way, needs stripping ans springs checking or that's the turbo money gone on a whole new shifter.
My mate did a 295w 20min who is 67kg.......I am miles behind him. Erickson was pretty good this evening.

By either measure I'll be relegated to The Championship! :-)
Night off the bike tonight, then normal service resumes tomorrow......
Ah but you'll have the biggest potential out of all of us to improve. Night off the bike tonight, then normal service resumes tomorrow......
It will be interesting to see how the table changes / looks over the next few months.

I am an utter lightweight though, I'm only 54kgs
I wouldn't make a bad climber.......
Sprints however, not my speciality!!
Day off today, going to do sufferfest Local Hero tomorrow instead of "Mary Austin"
8.5 stone Blimey, my 13yr old daughter isn't far off that I wouldn't make a bad climber.......

5ft 6.....I have always been relatively slim, when I was a middle to long distance runner I was around 8 stone 11lbs. JUST over 2 years ago I went in for major surgery, almost died....went down to just over 7 stone (long story....lost the ability to swallow so had to be tube fed, and they fked my feed up...), and have never fully brought my weight back up.

Only people who only ever bang on about w/kg - the ones with no KG and no W
UK is flat people, w/kg means bugger all
Which is why I always choose hilly routes UK is flat people, w/kg means bugger all
I think to say it means bugger all isn't true. Friend of mine is about 50% heavier, has a higher FTP than me (not 50% more, but definitely more, and yet I'm faster than him.

You could say the same about FTP too.UK is flat people, w/kg means bugger all
For a relative cycling novice who has recently started using a Turbo, you need a bench mark from where you are starting, so you can measure progress.
To me, I want to improve my overall ability and average speed.
What I use to measure my baseline isn't really important, BUT when I measure it after 4-6 weeks I need to use the same yardstick otherwise it becomes a pointless exercise.
As a bit of a fatty, W/kg is a logical thing to use as it will give me a measure of both weight loss and improved performance, BUT I also need to measure FTP as this is irrespective of my weight and will single out any performance gain that is not weight-loss related.
Since where I live is reasonably hilly, the uphills is where I typically lose time, increasing W/kg AND FTP will result in me achieving my goal of increasing my average speed, as I will lose less time going up.
let's not turn this into an argument about the relevance of W/Kg.....it's a great benchmark for one to compare their own improvements on the whole.
For example...if someone has a 300W FTP and weighs 75kg, if they are able to maintain 300W for their FTP yet lose weight and become 70kgs, then they WILL be a faster rider, thus W/Kg is relevant. But if you're comparing rider-to-rider it's harder to judge, but on flatter courses, generally, power wins.
Let's keep this thread to TR I'm aiming for around 135-140TSS tomorrow, so it'll be a warm up, Sufferfest Local Hero which has been marginally edited.

Yes, my point was that for normal sized people (sorry Ross) you should concentrate on increasing power vs stagnating and trying to get super lean, the ideal is to train to be powerful and eat to be lean of course. Most folk are not anywhere near their potential in weight or FTP stakes, so no reason not to concentrate on both. But at a push I would always rather have more watts than lose and extra KG or 2 if the choice is there.
Always remember 1kg is 3 seconds difference up Box Hill and two bottles weigh 1kg. Which is why when you hear people stting their pants about 200g here or there you can only laugh.
