I've be threatening to do the C2C for a while now, this makes it look little a gentle couple of days cycling laugh

I envy his drive and passion, some serious commitment to do this.

I've just finished reading his book, I think he likes pushbikes more than motorbikes... Well that isn't entirely true but he doesn't have a whole lot of good things to say about road racing as a sport.

Antelope Wells to be exact. Yes it's NM, the exact finish is the border post.

He's bloody hardy, he was at the Strathpuffer 24hr this weekend doing it solo after cycling 400 km to get here! Conditions were hard in the mud, I am going to sleep for a week!

I saw that, did he have transponder issues or did he stop after 18 hours?

Was watching the results to see how Emily Chappell got on after talking to her in London a couple of weeks ago.

Not sure, he didn't look too happy as he was going round, last I heard he was in about 30th place, some seriously fast people there, having to pedal as hard as possible to get thru mud going downhill, I am burst!

His book talks about the 24hr MTB races quite a lot and his mood while taking part hehe

He was up to 10th at one point (for solos). Afterwards he very kindly signed a book for us and said he'd had a rather troubled event, but we didn't push him for details.

As a newbie quad team we were really chuffed just to get through it all without any broken bones or dead bikes... damn that muddy section towards and at the end; you couldn't even pedal downhill so we were carrying our bikes and losing overshoes.

Which particular book is that? I've seen a couple of different ones, but am unsure which might be best.

Did you enjoy it? Like yourselves we were a first time quad entry. The mud was absolutely savage but we loved the whole experience, can't wait till next year!

There's his first book 'My Autobiography' which is quite good, I've also read his new book 'When you dead, you dead' which is basically his 2015... I received the book for Christmas and had finished reading it before New Year! (I couldn't out it down) There's some interesting insights into his mind set and outlook on life etc. - he writes as he talks so it's an easy and enthusiastic read! smile

I can't comment on 'Speed', I haven't read it.

Haha, "enjoy" is an interesting word. The whole event was fantastic, my teammates were perfect in that we were all about the same pace and we didn't take it too seriously, had a great laugh with our brazier on the fire road wearing our silly jock "Tam O'Shanter" hats. But I dreaded having to go out on my final (6th) stint, as I was too tired to stay upright. Through the rock garden I hardly had the energy to balance properly, then got some energy back before performing a comedy high-speed faceplant into the undergrowth in the final fast singletrack section just before the muddy finale. But then, that's what it's about - endurance and digging deep to haul your arse round the course. Brilliant.

I won't be in the UK next January, but would be totally up for it again in 2018.

And to keep the thread a bit on topic, here's Mr Martin going past us:

That is the book I read, I'd echo the comments above it is a nice lightheared read and gives a good insight to some of his antics.

I got When You Dead You Dead for Christmas. Started it a couple of weeks ago, finished it yesterday. It's fun - like reading his columns in Performance Bike.
