Looks like SRAM are upping the 1x11 game.

SRAM announces NX 1x11 drive train

By my calculations the whole lot should cost around £250, and the fact that the 11-42 cassette will fit on a standard free hub instead of having to change to XD looks like a bonus.

Will we see an alternative price comparable option from Shimano soon?

Alternatively I've converted from a 3 x 10 to a 1 x 11 by buying a new 11sp cassette, rear mech, shifter and chain ring (using my existing crank) for £160

£251 at RRP apparently, but given the deals Sram often gives to manufactures when combined with wheels, suspension and seatposts then we'll likely see some pretty cheap full bikes sporting it.

And once that happens the OEM bargains will follow and it'll get really cheap.

By then Sram will have the 10-50 12 speed Eagle groupsets out though so it'll be old news.

Sorry, but if you need a 50 rear, 30 front, you'd either be better off walking or being winched up, or not bothering to ride at all!

Although I suppose on the flip side, a 50 rear would let you run a 36 front which, if you race or enjoy punting out some serious wattage on give an take trails, would be mega. You'd still be able to get up climbs and liaison stages easily enough.

Only a matter of time before Shimano trickle down 1 x 11 to SLX or Deore.

I thought the 1 x 12 was a hoax?
That's going to be one narrow chain to go with that cassette - especially if it's going to fit on a standard free hub.

Guess we'll find out in March....

Twelve speed? 10-50t?

Leaked photos?

Has someone let the April Fool cat out of it's bag too early? Is there really a 'need' for something like this?

On a more serious note. Does anyone know if the NX 1 x 11 group is available yet? That I am interested in!

Looks to be available from April according to BIKERADAR Review.

Guessing places like CRC will probably be knocking a few quid off it to make it even more attractive.

Cheers Woody!

No use to me then, as I'm supposed to be racing in mid-March. My fixtures secretary/treasurer won't wear the idea of buying twice, neither... frown

Back to trawling the internet for 'currently available' kit now.

I'd rather spend a little bit more on the XT groupset, which is already below £300 in some places, plus the NX cassette is a bit weighty at 538g!

That 1x12 range looks daft. Seriously 1x10 is more than enough, chains are narrow enough already, fine for dusty American states and Southern Europe but not for the UK for all year riders, 1x10 the 11T is more or less pointless on a MTB alreay the moment it gets muddy it stops being useable not enough chain wrap. My perfect ideal world setup would be 1x10 with a 34T chain ring and 12-42 cassette, could have nice spacing with that 12,15,18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 34, 38, 42. Won't be upgrading to 1x11 or 1x12.

I'm interested in going for some NX as it stops the initial cost of going 1x11 being such a big hit, upgrade as bits wear/break. As for going xd later, if you are running decent wheels, just about everyone offers a replacement freewheel to fit their wheels, allowing that option to be used later.
