Not mine, but this geezer came into the workshop the other day with his extra long Brompton...
Has he modified it?
Yeah, quite clever really, he welded an extra inch in either side of the hinge so it all folds together still.

Funnily enough, when Brompton were doing the 'design your own Brompton/Win your own Brompton' thing, this was one of my suggestions. I didn't specify an additional length, but figured if you added a piece either side of the fold, it whsoiuld still work.

One of the biggest problems with the Brompton (for me) was always how short it is.

Quick question..
I ordered +12% gears & receipt says that..
However a sticker on the Hub says standard ratio.
Would + say otherwise? Wondered if the sprocket gave the increase..

The sprocket would be bigger to give you +12%

I've got an interview in Hove on Mon morning, so an overnight. Will be taking the Brompton so I can take it for an early morning thrash to calm my nerves.

Just started a Brompton group on FB with an aim to do some meets if enough people join!

It's for Sussex owners.

Whilst that's quite lovely offer, I'm normally based in the Exeter area, so might not make many meets. I managed to pop over to Ditchling yesterday though, before I spent many hours trying to get home again:

9th out of the PH group and in the top 6% of times up the main segment:

Ditching Beacon on a Brompton is impressive, not sure if I'd manage it on my 2 speed!

It's a 6-speed, and it was almost all sat down, I'd have had no chance on a 2-speed.

I might have been able to taste blood once I'd finished coughing at the end...!

Thanks for mentioning that prog, Neil - I wasn't aware it had been on. Don't seem to watch any telly these days.

I'm taking my Brompton to Whitby on holiday soon. Hope I'll get the chance to use it a bit; none of the 5 people I'm going with are taking a bike.

Loved the program, despite having Gregg Wallace front it! I don't yet have a Brompton, I don't yet have commuting circumstances that require me to own one, but I so want one! Already configured on the Brompton website! smile

Rode the Scarborough to Whitby old rail line last year and crossed paths with someone riding a Brompton the other way - not sure how far they were going. Hopefully did better than me on my old MTB - vibration on the worst bit finally saw my remnants of mudguard disappear - then a puncture saw me call MrsMercs to drag me back home.

In the last twelve months rode mine up Cheddar Gorge and on a big loop up Gap of Dunloe in Ireland. The Cotswolds beckons.
