These ones:

They offer much better stopping power than the stock option, especially in the wet, and they don't seem to cover the rims in black gunk either.
Do these slot into the Brompton pad holder, or do you need to buy the SwissStop brake pad and cartridge set first?

(I've only recently bought the Brompton, and haven't used rim brakes for about 15 years prior to this...!)

Bit of a thread revival, I started a new job at the beginning of May in St Katherines Dock, I commute into Waterloo, having taken the tune for that journey before I decided a Brompton was the way to go. I bought a lightly used (for 3 months) S6L, amd have cycled the 3 miles from Waterloo since day 2. I'm smitten with it (obviously the weather helps), I've lost weight, the ride in the evenings clears my head and I'm not paying an extra £800 a year for the tube...

Any essential upgrades? I've fitted roller blade wheels (take our Daughter to nursery on the way to the station 3 days a week), and about to swap the pedals.

What roller blade wheels did you fit? Was it a complete kit?

My Brompton is now 3 years old and covered 5500 miles and its been pretty good. If yours hasn't got them fitted, then I recommend schwalbe marathons tyres. They are about £20. They are not 100% puncture proof (No tyre is!), but I think I have had about 3 or 4 punctures in my 5.5k and that is pretty good considering mine is used every working day of the month no matter what the weather is.

When mine hits 6000 miles, I'm buying it Carbon bars. Only £50 from Ebay smile

I don't look after mine as much as should and therefor I have been through three sets of chains and sprockets. Should oil the chain more often. I recon mine will probably need a new rear hub soon as it sounds pretty grumbly!

They really are excellent bit of kit. I've grown quite attached to mine. I ran a Tern for about three months before I bought the Brompton and the Brompton is better in almost every way. My Brompton has saved me £3382 to date Vs using the tube on an Oyster card smile

MIne's now just over 2 years old - it was an S6L but now it's an S6R after I smashed the rear mudguard and replaced it with the rack kit (about £80, and takes perhaps 1/2 hour to fit) - I find it's much more stable when folded, and I now don't have to worry about being a bit rough when folding (which was what smashed the mudguard).

I also seem to be getting through a sprocket and chain a year - that's on about 1,500 miles per year, but I cycle in all weathers and am a bit slapdash with cleaning/lubing...

My cycle commute is soon to roughly double, so I will be investing in Schwalbe Marathons! (I've had to change a rear puncture once in two years, but once is enough).

I loaned mine to my brother so he could go on a French canal boat holiday. He was given the following stern (pun intended) warning:

"I love this bike more than my kids, and almost as much as my dog. You break it, you replace it."

He had recently just sold his motorbike, and was told in no uncertain terms not to spend the proceeds until he'd returned my Brompton. In hindsight, I should have taken it as a deposit.

Took mine on holiday to Italy last month. Here it is just above the medieval town of Pigna, in Liguria.

At least the climb up the Valle Argentina (partially) offset the gelato consumption whistle

Could I ask Brompton owners what floor standing or other pump they use to keep their tyres up to pressure ?
I really struggle to thread mine through the spokes to fit the valve and the Brompton supplied pump doesn't get to the required pressure.
Thanks in advance.

I have a Topeak Joe Blow Max HP - about £25 from the usual suppliers.

I just have a normal cheapy track pump, which has both types on the same end. It sometimes takes a wee while to get it on, but can get to 100 psi easily enough when it's on.

Re the wheels. These: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2...

Which I'm not that impressed with, had to put a nut between the wheel and the frame to allow me to tighten the bolt up enough so the left side doesn't come undone, if you tighten against the bearing you lock them.

Have the rack kit coming which I'm told is the real solution...

An 2018 M6L 'collapsible bicycle' in Tempest Blue. I ordered Racing Green, but ' twas out of stock.

New handlbar grips pleasant, and gear manglers are much better than the old 'Brian the Snail' type. Now comes with Schwalbe Marathon Racers as the default. Previously had a 2003 M3, this is an improvement.

Some quirks remain. Rear tyre rubs against the bottom bracket when folded, gnawing the paint off. Cables rub against the frame. (Clear vinyl patches ordered.) Rat-trap folding pedal still bites your fingers.

£100 off at Evans if you trade in any old clunker. :-)

It was hissing down yesterday so the bike remains unridden, so far.

Tyre pumps: There's a 12V electric pump in the car boot. 0 to 100 psi in thirty seconds. :-)

I've switched to SPD-SLs to match the rest of the bikes, but agree on the cable rub and rear wheel bit.

I bought a lovely kids bike for £5 off FaceAche Marketplace before trading it in for £100 off my Pinnacle Arkose Alfine.

Still love my Brompton though.

The £100 'p/x' at Evans was a laff, they didn't even look at the clunker I took in. It could have been anything. :-)

The only thing missing from the bike was the box: 'We have no boxes' and the Brompton paper manual/swing tag you nomally get. Maybe it's in the box...

Bike is alright. 2019 spec is better than of old. (Separate post.) Can't hear the miniscule bell though. Possibly age-related. :-)

The rat-trap pedal has to go. Maybe a set of those plug-in ones. Tempest B/lue paint is Quite Nice Really.

Ok scratch my Evans Brompton order. I've bought a mint Brompton secondhand so my cycle to work scheme voucher can be used for a CX/gravel bike.

Two speed 2017 in black. I'll need a front bag ASAP for my shopping etc tongue out

Any mods or good bits I can buy that'll add to my Brompton experience?

I'm on nights at the moment and commuted on the tram. Prefer this to driving in/back.

Still bawk at the price I paid but I've used it for quick shop, buy bread, pub and work.

I want to get an 8 speed single twist grip conversion:

http://www.kinetics-online.co.uk/folding-bikes/bro...

And a titanium telescopic seat post, but they're like unicorn horns on eBay.

Get a Brooks saddle and some Brooks grips, fits the exentric British look.
