Suggestions?

Something fast needed for local trails. Have been looking at Canyon but as a roadie looking to visit the dark side I'm not so aware of the best MTB bikes.

Happy to spend a bit more or less to hit that sweet spot where you get max value for your ££££.

Why wouldn't I buy this...... https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/mtb/grand-canyon/gran... or this.... https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/mtb/grand-canyon/gran...

TIA.

That's what I'd do....
I wouldn't stress too much about canyon delivery, the number f moaners on the net is high but they only represent a minority of UK customers, we complain about delays etc but rarely start threads about great customer service or prompt delivery.

IT was really bad over winter. Mates bike was nearly 6 months (3 months late) then the rear shock failed and it took 6 weeks for replacement
The bikes are nice though but check out Pauls for value for money.

Ill check it out, thanks.

I know of Canyon delivery issues - I have a CF SLX road bike that was late - but the product is so good it would not stop me buying another.

That F29 is heavier than the Canyon and comes with a lower spec?

This probably isn't strictly allowed but I'm selling my brand new Whyte 905 RS (http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1981576/) as I just don't have the time to ride it. RRP is £1599, but would be willing to do you a deal... PM me for details.

Love my 901, especially after ripping all of the SRAM shyte off of it, bar the forks...

They are good bikes - Ive had 2, (1st one pinched) My only criticism was the Avid brakes (on the 2013 model). Just st.
Thankfully my Carbon 2 that replaced the alloy 2 has full deore/xt, though is over twice the budget of the OP.... Saying that, dont cross carbon off your list if theres one in your budget, mine with the lefty is a shade over 10kgs - and believe me you notice a difference getting onto a 13kg bike after.

Lefty is a marmite fork. You either revel at its quirkyness and design brilliance (and if you want people to stare and ask questions most rides) or see it as an answer to a question no one asked. Personally they are great and Ive had no issues with them, slightly less travel than many forks (90mm on most) but Ive never bottomed mine out.

Canyon get great write ups but what are they like for warranty?
I had a set of Revelations fail on their second ride. Took them back to the shop and they replaced them.
Cant really do that easily with a mail order bike?

I think MBR did a test last month on £500/£750/£1000 HT's . Worth a read, if I find it I will stick up their thoughts.

There are a multitude of HT's in this price range, Id certainly stick with 29" as they are fast! But wait and someone will say 26".... smile

Take a look at Rose (Rose Versand). Another German direct company like Canyon. You can spec the bike to your taste, and they are very good to deal with.

i paid 350 for a barely used voodoo wanga, spent 150 on upgrades and service and now have one of the best bikes owned(3 x cubes, Saracen, boardman, trek), a heavy hitter.

i wouldn't write off 2nd hand options.
