Well done to all who took part, lovely weather for it - shame about the stoppages.

Gave a cheer to someone in a PH jersey on the road between Abinger and Forest Green.

That was me, I waved back at you smile
90 mins waiting at Riply then 30 on leith hill, bit of a mare, but at least the sun shined !
Hello!

We managed to get to West Byfleet, Ripley, Abinger and on the way down Leith, then watched the pros at the White Down/A25 corner - great day!

Gutted I didn't do it this year, was sooooo jealous.

What a day!

It was my first cycling event - only took up road cycling in April - so was really chuffed with 5hrs23mins moving time. Not least because I fell off and broke my wrist on Thursday!!

Real shame about the traffic. I started at 8.27 with a mate 4mins behind. When we hit the 90min stoppage at Pyrford he ended up about 500m back in the queue. This seemed to then compound as all the riders were really bunched up for subsequent accidents in Send and overcrowding on Leith Hill. He ended up 45 mins behind me despite similar avg speed and was really fed up, while I was in the first wave to hit each bit of traffic and just about squeezed through.

Great event but they need to work out how to avoid the overcrowding on some of the lanes. Climbing Leith Hill with people touching elbows, and stopping and unclipping right in front of me, was not fun!! And many people seem to have been forced to walk.

Got a little emotional on the Mall. Definitely entering 2017 ballot...

Great day, had a brief chat with Luke? Got round in 4:27:58 which is almost exactly 20 mins better than last year. Got to Leith reasonably early and just stuck to the left and went nice and slow, ended up overtaking a few exuberant people who went flat out at the lower 1/3.

Reasonably good skills and great fun in some of the trains when clear of nervous riders. Looks like PRL has crashed Strava!

I rode with you on that run in through Wimbledon and Putney. Never could quite get close enough to say hello without risking doing something stupid. Then missed you at the finish. 4:36 for me.

That's a shame Ben, big peloton through there and not much space between riders! Just had a massive curry and off to bed.

There are reports of two very seriously injured riders; is that normal for this event?

There are normally a few crashed, I cannot recall anything this bad in the previous two years. I got to my start wave as it closed st at 05:43 and there were way more people than normal. Wouldn't be surprised if there were more people riding.

Fingers crossed, my mate was right behind one crash reported head and neck injuries potentially with loads of blood running across the road.

Same for me, plus numerous times where we had to come to a halt at various 'pinch' points along the route.

I managed to join my mate at the start and we so left almost an hour earlier than my scheduled time, but told him to go off at his pace and he was close to the accident so didn't have anywhere near as long to wait as we did.

I think they redirected later people around Box hill no Leith hill to avoid the congestion.

Happy it's over now, I'm expecting my GP`s to show around 6h 40 actual riding time with an extra 2h 30 of standing around time!

I think the truth is that it's now too successful and there are two many people so any issue quickly gets compounded - I'm sure that for experienced riders with superior skills having so many people so close together is perfectly fine, but for the relative novices (and I include myself in that category), it is likely to lead to accidents and the congestion we saw today.

Maybe on the normal roads, beginners/cruisers should stay left and the semi-pros/keen amateurs should stay right.. Try and split the road in 2, without cones etc.

That is how it seemed to work a lot of the time.

Was a good day out, lost an hour or so at Ripley and then at every lump in the road since there.

Seemed to me there was a lot of poor discipline on the road with a lot of riders unable to hold a straight line!

Possibly with 26,000 riders the route needs to be reviewed to remove some of the pinch points, that said I have heard of riders dying on previous ride London, so perhaps 2/26,000 is the norm?

Perhaps 26,000 riders is way in excess of what can safely be managed on the chosen roads?

This was my first sportive. Loved it, the crowds really made it special, I felt like a pro-rider the way they were reacting!

Only did 75 miles and none of the big 3 climbs due to the diversion, probably a good thing as I don't think my fitness was up for it!

Didn't mind the 90 minute stoppage. The surroundings were nice!

I did my "thing" again.

Farnborough to Ripley this time though (last year I jumped onto the route at the bottom of the Newlands Corner climb. I left home at around 2pm so I ended up between the Pru RideLondon event and the pro race, time-wise. Then I followed the official route as best I could (aside from some one-way roads and the West Byfleet to Pyrford section, where I turned too early). I basically ditched everything north of Kingston, because I didn't want to stay out all night like I did last year. When I got back around to Ripley I pointed the bike west and headed home again.

The big delay for me was at the A25 junction after Leith Hill. When I got there the lead group in the pro race was blasting past,so I was stuck watching that until all the vehicles in the caravan were through. Then I missed the sprint in Dorking (strip-out crews with articulated lorries meant I had to crawl through town on the pavement).

Lovely day out on the bike, without the worry of being too close to wobbly folk who can't hold a line wink
Fair play, though, I was VERY slow compared to most riders on the official event.

Kudos to all the marshals and stewards. Well most of them, at any rate - there were one or two grumpy gits. Clapping and cheering me, even as a non-participant, riding the route while it was still meant to be closed. And to the family at Gomshall - a bell and whistles, and plenty of cheering as I solo'd through. I think they may have been on their way to watch the pro race. Special thanks to the motorbike marshal who rode with me for a while on the descent into Dorking, waving me on and sounding a 'whistle' on his bike. He's the chap I'd chatted to at the closure point while waiting for the race to finish with the road. I felt briefly like a professional cyclist, right up until I glanced at the speed on my Garmin, whereupon reality reestablished itself once again...

Can only assume the diversion from Pyrford > Old Woking > Send > Ripley took some time to close those roads. They've got diversions in on the A25 ready to go, move 5 cones and miss Leith if there was any issues there, guess they can't predict someone going off into a tree though.

It's not too much to think that people riding 100 miles averaging at least 12.5mph could ride in a straight line.

If they can't then they should do as briefed if having a "Gentle ride" stay as left as possible and not wobble all over the road "just because it's closed and you can (not you personally but those in general).... often it was safer to undertake than over take.

We were stuck at Pyrford for at least an hour, Was leith hill taken out for riders then ? it was open for us .
