Why use Di2? Surely more to go wrong and on such a long race you need reliability not flat batteries.
Because physical effort on hands to change gear so many times is very wearing, so Di2 reduces need to maintain hand strength. Why use Di2? Surely more to go wrong and on such a long race you need reliability not flat batteries.

That was my badly made point..... Thanks for getting better words out!
No worries, you can try to prevent by using aerobars but you then risk Shermers neck which is far worse. Wide ergo bars double wrapped with thick tape help to a certain degree but its unavoidable. Worked my way to 5th and then dropped to 29th. Di2 battery died on me, at the bottom of a valley. Put in a big turn through the night, pushing (too) hard and clawed my way back to 14th at CP1. Got a room at CP1 and now I'll sleep until chucking out, waiting out the morning storms here. Who knows what position I'll wake up to, as other riders come and go straight off.

The batteries didn't last anywhere near as long as they're meant to.
I hope he gets more life out of the next charge.
He's made good progress.

There are a couple of machines in the race who appear not to have had a break yet!

Randomly stumbled across this thread and have just been reading your blog - simply amazing. If I was wearing a hat, I'd take it off to you.
Cancer took my wife far too early and as I'm really not equipped to contemplate anything like this, I've made a little donation to what is a fantastic cause. And I'd encourage anyone else who reads this thread to do the same.
