Just been looking at some stats of his so far;

He's been riding for 111hours 19minutes

during which he's cycled 1599.5miles

so that's an average of 14.4mph

he's climbed 71,382feet

Currently he's 23km from Check point 4 (all uphill) fair to say just to get this far is incredible!

Once he's there (making some route assumptions) it's less and 600miles to the finish but that's mainly downhill/level(ish) apart from a few lumps (ok 38,000ft of lumps).
And 5 days until Sunday's party. 5 long hard days. It will be one hell of an achievement!

Showing 11k to go to CP4 in my feed.

CP4 closes at 4pm today according to the brevet card (presuming that's local) - so he should just make it, I know you don't have to make it before it closes - but still a good feeling.

An amazing, unbelievable effort - I've no idea how he (or any of the other riders still out there) is keeping going!!

Yep should make it... 2.5miles to the Col and then 8.6miles of descent to the CP.

The last spot fix is 17minutes ago so he could already be in the tuck and go!

Keep it up gruffy.. Finish is closing in.

Still following the progress several times a day.

Still blown away at the sheer challenge of this event.

Out of interest how much are riders allowed to form "temporary alliances" whilst on the road?

Obviously teams are out of the question (unless an official pair) but is it a case of "time trial rules" ie if you are following you should move out of the wheel or "TdF Breakaway rules" ie you can form a temporary alliance if it helps you to the win.

The second reason for a cap on entries is that the experience of riding unsupported across Europe in the TCR is at least in the main part intended to put the rider in a position very similar to that of riding alone across Europe outside of any event and totally reliant on their own self – that is to say not having significant contact with any support from the race administration or other riders – save for certain times – usually around the controls. Clearly this is a balancing act and we are not able to completely create an isolated experience for every rider, neither would we want to. As numbers grow however the experience of being one of 30 racers to one of 300 is going to change the nature of the race considerably – so to make sure that this is not to the overall detriment of the race and the experience, we intend to grow slowly.
It's a very long article, but allegiances it seems are not really in the spirit of the event.

More detail - worth reading if you haven't before, but quite long.

2015 Rules with regard to pairs and assistance between riders state that if one rider helps another rider then they can become joined as a pair and will get the same time when they finish.
I didn't spot anything on drafting.

It's the third rule!

RULES

1. Riders must ride from the start point to the finish point and visit all mandatory controls en-route.

2. 3rd party support is prohibited. All food, drink and equipment must be carried by the rider or acquired en-route.

3. Drafting is prohibited.

4. All forward land travel must be human powered.

5. Ferries are permitted for expedient coast to coast travel, by approval of the Race Director.

6. Riders are responsible for maintaining positional updates and evidence thereof.

7. 2+ days of inactivity without contact will be deemed a scratch.

8. No Helmet, No Insurance, No Ride.

9. It is the rider’s responsibility to know and observe local laws.

10. Riders must act in the spirit of self sufficiency and equal opportunity for all racers.

Looks like he will clear Serbia today (having got half way through since starting at 7am today), then be in to Greece at some point late tomorrow, or Early Saturday at the latest. Then it's flat across Greece to Turkey. Fingers crossed the illness has lifted and it will be a good run to the end.

It looks like as things have gone on that the weather and check points have caused some bunching. I'm sure most solo entrants are in it to do it on their own but a bit of company every now and then for a few miles must be good.

Stating the obvious but what was something seriously impressive in the first place has become even more so in light of the challenges that he’s faced.

I hope that things not exactly going as planned still makes rolling into Canakkale as awesome as I’d imagine it’ll be.

After my Achilles blew in Italy I lost a day. Since then, any comparison with riders ahead was rendered meaningless. My delay meant I faced the Passo Giau in horrendous conditions, and then the 215kph winds in Croatia. Both have taken their toll and left me with this infection. My race against other competitors ended in Italy. Since then it's become a personal battle.

I signed up because I wanted to test myself. I like to think I'm tough and this was a way to actually know what I'm made of. In that respect I'm glad my own race has been so brutal. Many, many times I've been tempted to scratch. My body scratched in Italy. My head is a stubborn bd though.

I WILL finish this race. I WILL finish in time for the party. I will also have raised a boat load of cash for Cancer Research. And I will reach Turkey knowing a whole lot more about myself.
