I don't recall the specifics but I know I managed to shock myself when I'd calmed down. I can't remember ever being so vocally angry with anybody before.

Day 9 is up. I call this one The Unrideable Day. The final numbers are unremarkable but this was the craziest day's riding I've ever done.

They cancelled the Dubai Tour stage last week when the winds got to 65kph. Gusts peaked at 215kph in Croatia on Day 9.

I filmed some stuff with the camera crew between the start and CP2, but as I had problems and slipped back through the field I was too far behind for anything after that. I guess that made editing difficult and it was better focus on the stories of others.

In November I had the privilege of a lab tour at the Barts Cancer Institute to see how the funds we raised are put to use. It was genuinely fascinating and an inspiring experience that I imagine others would also find interesting:

Once more I'd like to say a huge thank you for all the support from Pistonheads and PHers. Your collective generosity is helping to save many lives.

Gruffy - any chance of a write-up on the final TCR days?
Really enjoyed the first 9 days.

Any audax plans for 2017?

They are coming, I promise. I'm hoping to finish these over the next 6 weeks. I've a trip to the Kamchatka Peninsula over Easter that should give some downtime to wrap them up.

I was hoping to do more audax this year but the calendar hasn't really fit well with family and social commitments so it's mostly self-directed riding. I'm going to ride The Dean (300) on the 25th March. I missed the boat on the London-Wales-London ride at the end of April but will ride it anyway. Possibly the Brimstone 600 on 27th May as test-ride with support crew, a week before the Tour of Cambs. The big target for the year is LEL, where I want to put in a decent performance and challenge for a top finish. I've got some independent 400s planned that tie around travel plans (SWMBO flies, I ride); the Dun Run double etc. There's the Hereward The Wake (300) which leaves at 10pm on Friday 14th July. I may do that for a final night ride test before LEL.

After that I've got Revolve24 pencilled in, plus a cheeky visit to China to nab that Taklamakan Desert Highway that Guy Martin has popularised. Possibly a stab at the NC500 record if I'm strong after all that and the crewed ride goes well. The NC500 record is a very tough one though (830km, 10,000m+ climbing and 31h23m) and no amount of training is going to make me top climber.

After a long wait I've added three new blog entries in the past couple of weeks.

Day 10: The Bosnian Rollercoaster

Day 11: Get busy living

Day 12: You beautiful lumpy bd

And if anybody's coming to this for the first time, the Transcontinental story begins back here.

PS Read the mag this month with the write on the Tran Siberia ride? Sounds horrific.
