Another rider has just confessed to being the zombie! He'd bivvied exactly where I'd stopped to check the map (what are the odds!?) and the groan was his half-hearted half-awake attempt to get my attention. He bloody well managed that.

It’s written! The final instalment is now published and the last 600km weren’t short of drama.

There is already a new thread for the Trans Am. I can’t easily link to it in the phone but you’ll find it in Pedal Powered. I’m committed to writing up this race in good time.

The Achilles are in much better shape now. I’ve changed shoes and have my cleats nice and far back. Not fully mid-sole but I’m not expecting any Achilles issues from this course. It’s much less vicious than the TCR (slightly less climbing despite being almost double the distance).

I see a girl has taken on the men in this years race and shown them how to win in style!

It’s been an impressive ride and ridden ‘like a girl’. By that I mean she’s ridden a measured, disciplined and metronomic race. She never looked like she was under any pressure and entirely rode her own race. That’s the fastest way but very hard to do in reality.

Amazing that she’s just 24 too. Seems a new generation of racers has arrived and the average age of the winners is definitely coming down.

I bet the trackers were interesting to watch. Great for the profile of the sport. I don’t recall seeing it on bbc sport when you did it.

Kristof winning, again, in 2016 wasn't especially newsworthy. The first time the race made the national press was when Mike Hall was killed on the IPWR in 2017. Great to do so this time for something positive.
