Maybe it would be easier to fix the old one.... ;-)

My thoughts exactly. Mind you, the bike I use most often is 20 years old and I've replaced every moving part except one at least once. It's like triggers broom. I'd like a newer bike but...Naah. Why, when I can mend what I have and it's just as much fun?

Update.

In the end, I just thought fk it, I just need a bike that I can use.

So I strolled down to the end of my street and walked into the local bike shop and bought a Scott bike last night. This morning I did a nice 10 mile ride.

The old bike I am going to convert in to touring bike at some point with some thinner tyres and non-suspension forks.

Now, the bike might not be the best model but I am actually cycling again and very much enjoyed my ride this morning.

Thanks guys!

Good choice. I bet the new bike is every bit as good in the real world as the one that you buy after poring over specs for weeks.

Fixing up the oldy is always a winner too.
