I've been wanting to get an interior retrim for quite a while, but the only thing stopping me is what colours to do it in.

I love lime green, ideally incorporating it into the design, but I don't want to overkill it so it looks eek

As I couldn't imagine what things would look like and I'm reluctant to splash out £5k only to get it wrong, I bought some leather colourant to test it out first. Total outlay £80 and two days to splash it on - a bit rough in places but it's only temporary until it's done properly in the best hides money can buy.

So this is the car:

And this was my interior before:

and now:

I'm not too sure on the lime green - it looks a bit lost and out of place. I whacked a bit lime green on the carpet edging thinking it would be enough to tie it in, but I think it fails. I wonder if all the stitching was green, that would improve it?

So I'm a bit stuck now...

Opinions please on if it should be

1, A darker grey

2, Change the lime green to black

3, Any other suggestions.

When you said "Lime Green" I thought I was gonna puke
BUT
I think that she looks quite good - Certainly better than the original.

Can you give me a clue as to what products you used to die her ?

Got the gear from here

I'm glad in a way that it's only vinyl - wipe down with prep, clean with alcohol and whack on the paint. Quick spray with sealant is "supposed" to stop it scratching off again.

I'll be interested to see how durable yours is. I used FC stuff on mine and it's not stuck too well to vinyl, even with adhesion promoter. At least it let me try out different colours before paying up for it to be done in leather.

Looks pretty good for being painted on, surprising.

I would give some thought to the fact that the seats are black with white inners, whereas doorcards are the other way round. Also a dark dash top would be better. I think if you're gonna do the lime thing there needs to be more of it smile. Maybe the underside of the dash top? Also the armrest should be different from the centre console.

Maybe more black with lime highlights and ditch the white? The exterior looks good enough to support that. It's tricky. I would experiment with the bucket fill feature of photoshop or similar until I found a combo that works.

I think the seats look great, BUT, if you're going for lime green, you need to go full-on (like the orange in my interior - see profile picture) OR forget it. A couple of bits here and there just look a bit weird and a bit of stitching or edging isn't going to change that.

I'm not an expert with photoshop, wouldn't know where to start, whereas this way I can live with it for a bit to see if I like it or not.

I thought about having the armrest different from the dash, but I think black armrest, wife thinks black dash.

I did the dash top black, looks much better.

Going to live with it for a bit, but I'm thinking of ditching the lime.

I'm just uncertain if I'm brave enough to go full on lime.

The black is alcantara so couldn't change the colour, however after using the car for a few days, I totally agree that the door cards need to be reversed. Getting in/out the car in a tight squeeze, your shoes catch the bottom of the door leaving nice streaks across a light colour which I don't think will show as much if it was black.

...which proves the wisdom behind this suck-it-and-see approach to a makeover... it can save a very expensive 'mistake'!

Might be an idea to photograph your interior and lots of phones cameras have effects on that can turn the picture into a line drawing then you can get out the felt tip pens and experiment a bit with what works for you
